Tundra VRS F-150- Need a new truck.
« on: December 24, 2018, 11:10:37 AM »
Well as you may have seen I drowned my 2005 Tundra this weekend and it will likely be totaled out by insurance. I will be in the market for a new truck. Looking very seriously at these two trucks. No interest in a Dodge or Nissan and I have no real knowledge of GMC/Chevy so I kinda ruled them out as well. It also helps that my buddy runs a Ford dealership so I should get a very fair deal.

What do you think about the Tundra 5.7 V8 compared to the 2.7 or 3.5 EcoBoost V-6

INTENDED USES:
To and from work and daily driving
Towing 26ft Springdale Travel Trailer
Towing 16ft Boat

What about the F150 diesel?

Cory, Stick with the Tundra. My opinion is biased obviously because I’ve owned a Toyota for ever and I have a 5.7 Crewmax. Resale value and unrivaled reliability..what more do you need?

I would scratch that 2.7 L eco-boost if you were towing a big fifth wheel.

I’m surround by Fords every day. There are very few significant engine or drivetrain issues with any of the newer F150’s. The early 3.5 ecoboost had issues but those have all been resolved. I don’t know of any reason I wouldn’t buy an F150 assuming I could get the right deal, it was comfortable to drive and it served all my purposes. I wouldn’t buy the 2.7 ecoboost if you’re towing. It’s a cool little engine and the power it has will surprise you, but still... not for towing. The 3.5 is a beast. It’s got more horsepower and more torque than the 5.7 Toyota engine does, although both probably have more power than you’ll need. It probably gets better mpg’s although when it comes to a couple turbos, that’ll come down to how it’s driven. Drive them and see what you’re most comfortable with. You won’t go wrong either way.

Personally I say Tundra.  Gas mileage sucks but very reliable.  I have put 90k on mine and have not had to do a thing other than tires and brakes.  I know of a new F150 that has been to the shop a couple times and less than 2 years old.  :chuckle:  I do like the longer bed in the Ford with crew cab.  I also really really like the looks of the Fords.

The biggest dealership service department around here is the Toyota dealer.  :chuckle:

The only point I’m trying to make is they all have problems. It’s a total roll of the dice whether you get one that has a bunch of problems or not.

Could be, but regardless the trucks are still going to the shop. Again, the only point I’m trying to make is that they all break or need repairs at one point or another.

I love my tundra.  It's been a great truck.  With that said, I'd go f150 between the two options.  Those little barbie beds are pointless for my uses and a crew can is a must with kids (my tundra is a quad cab :bash:).  Let'snot even talk about comparing mileage  :chuckle:

After all that I'd get a GMC  :chuckle:
