Nisqually Reach Advise
« on: March 15, 2019, 08:50:16 AM »
So, I’m a casual fresh water guy.. I have a bayliner 17’ I put down riggers and a kicker on we use mostly for tubing and lake fun but fish Riffe, American, local lakes and occasional tirp to Chelan for koks..  I had a sled and have been in the sound before but pretty limited experience.

I live in Lacey and 10mins from Nisqually reach.  I’m looking to consider fishing it.  Huntnphool and Throtteljockey have been gracious via PM with some tips.  Any high level tips, times of year or other advice for this area??  Trying to get the wife and kids on some new adventures and experiences.  I’ve trolled before, have hoochies, some spoons and flashers and do the basics.  If you’d rather not broadcast to the world, PM’s are great.  I’m tight lipped with other peoples advice and typically have shared mine with others via PM as well.

Thanks..  It’s that time of year!!  At least for me.

I plan on going out to the same area as soon as I get my boat seaworthy.

Fish move into the Nisqually in August and done by Oct 15th or so.  Plenty of fish in area 13 though, so you can start  hitting it hard June and by the end of Sept most of the king and coho have moved either into the river or are at the mouth of the river.

Ok i cant take it anymore lol. forget the reach thats where everyone goes, and its not that great because those fish are so close to the freshwater and that scent they have followed for 3000 miles is so strong now they are on auto pilot for the most part. Go to fish trap around the point. In aug/sept we punched alot of kings there and lost/released 5x as many, and i will tell you those fish trap kings will destroy herring more then anything else. as for how, every area can have its own ways depending on the water and structure, if you want to know how to fish the trap i can show you how and what gear and how to fish it. and if your a lazy fisherman its a killer place to jig big glow darts they are very productive there and they hit it like a loaded freight train :yike: :yike:
Leave the reach inlet to the sheep and masses

Whats the closest launch to the trap.  Ive made the run from Pt Defiance launch to the mouth of the nisqually.  I know the trap isnt too far from there.

Putting it on my list for this summer.  Spend most of my time in areas 11 and 6 so something new sounds like fun.

it's turned into a giant mess for sure.  Reminds me of the lowland lake opener by the lack of boating ettiquette most days.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

You’d be incorrect.

Zittles is close too, and you don’t have to idle through a half mile of no wake zone. The Boston harbor launch is really close but no dock and not usable on low tide.
