Muzzy Question
« on: June 28, 2019, 06:31:28 PM »
How many of y’all only hunt muzzy in the backcountry. I’m tossing the idea around for elk. One hand says “buy a muzzy,” while the other says “just upgrade your bow.” For the record, I have had 0 success since I’ve been hunting in Washington. Thanks!

WA archery gives you a hunt during part of the rut (ends right during/before the peak). ML season gives you the tail of the rut and fewer areas to hunt. Maybe buy an OTC “other” state elk tag and hunt the full rut, in a better elk area, with your bow  ;). But yes, it’s never a bad time to pick up a new weapon and try it out. I’m actually hunting ML season in WA for the first time ever this fall to try it out  (and will be hunting another state with the old Darton in SEPT).  Whatever you decide, enjoy your hunt!

Does 0 success mean not getting into elk or just not killing them? If you not getting into elk, stick with archery. If you getting into elk and having trouble closing the deal with a bow then mz might be worth a shot. Bow hunting gives you the best opportunity to understand elk and have a quality hunting experience....IMO. That being said, I go back and forth depending on season dates and my hunting calendar.

Thanks! I was hell bent on hunting Idaho this year. Then I started doing the math and whatnot. Long story short, it would cost me more to hunt, plus my one of my boys will start hunting this year. Add on top of that, he plays on a traveling soccer team, so my schedule will be full lol!!

0 means I haven’t killed one. I got into a herd during rifle with my bow. I reckon I was 5-600 yards out, and put on a stall. Got half way down the hill I was on, only to realize I had forgotten my release in the truck lol!! Tried tracking them through extremely thick timber, and pushed them out. Rookie mistake!! It was a blast though!!
