“Offseason” hunting opportunities
« on: June 17, 2020, 06:24:30 AM »
Howdy folks,

I did a quick search on this topic, but aside from Coyotes that run year round, are there any other small game and varmint that you can hunt during the offseason? Is there a list somewhere of what is legal to shoot?

Going to get out and do some woods walks and bring ye old 44 special along for the opportunities that present themselves. But if there is more than just Coyote it would be good to have a list or know. Thanks!

I believe coyotes are the only animal open year round. Most small game is open sept 1st to either dec31 or march31. There may be non-game animals that could be taken but I don’t know where there is a list of that. Look at some hunting regs and then call wdfw, they should tell you definitively. .

Buy a wolf tag and go to Idaho

 :yeah:

Or MT, it's open Sep 15 through March 15 for rifle and a few years ago they dropped the cost of the tag to $50.  You can buy up to five tags a year OTC and use electronic calls.

Between big game seasons opening in August and ending in December (lion going on into the new year), trapping seasons through March, spring turkey opening a few weeks later and going into June, there isn't much of an off season!
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Eastern grey squirrels and ringed neck doves are fair game year round.

Sure had a ball last weekend shooting prairie dogs in eastern Montana
And the ranchers are very welcoming and thankful to get rid of a few
I’d say we killed over 100 between 3 of us
Fun
