Every single piece of DNR land I saw had people hunting the entire closure.

So late to the conversation but I was one of the clockum archery bull tag holders. If you were able to check your emails,  the game department gave you an option to return your permit to restore your points. It just had to be post marked within 7 days of your hunts opening day. I hunted pretty hard for 6 days with not hardly any bulls talking. But did see some true B&C bulls. I did return my permit, no regrets and wasn’t willing to hang 18 points on the line for maybe 5 or 6 days of the bulls possibly getting fired up. I look at it as I got 6 days of practice run for when I get drawn next time plus through this forum I was able to broaden my horizons in the clockum that I’ve hunted for 20 years and thought I knew quite well.
wow!!! Bs you were allowed to do that, and shame on you for doing so.  I hope your not trolling.

Another screw up by wdfw.  Should have had to be postmarked 7 days before your hunt started.  Total *censored*.

Am I reading this wrong? Did you not say WITHIN 7 days of your hunts opening day? So wtf? How do you hunt 6 days and give it back. Don’t cry about your 18pts and not filling your tag. I have 20 putting in for the same unit. That’s weak.

DNR closure caused the hunters who wanted to do the right thing and obey the closure go to areas where they hadn't scouted or knew the area.  We could have easily parked where we wanted to on dnr land and hunt dnr land. But my buddy and his buddy (tag holders) wanted to be 100% legal and they chose not to hunt DNR land. Buddy had 21 pts and i believe other guy had 17.  Land closed on Tuesday before the hunt. Not alot of time to go and scout completely new areas.  Wdfw is not to blame for giving pts back. I think it was pretty cool of them.  If you wanna be mad, be mad at DNR for closing. Or be mad at the arsonists.  Or be mad just to be mad. I say good on wdfw, for once.

Dnr closed on tuesday. That gave 3-4 days wdfw could have made people choose ro hunt or get points back before the season. Hell they could have given 24 hours past the opener and made a phone line for hunters to request points back and not hunt. I do think wdfw tried to do the right thing allowing returns but it is absolutely asenine that they allowed people to hunt for 6 days and then return the tag. You should either get to hunt or get points back. Not both.

If you had the tag would you be saying the same thing?

And if I not mistaken wdfw made the decision to give the hunters an opportunity to give tags back in while DNR land was still closed. Can we assume that wdfw had no clue when DNR was gonna open land back up. They could have extended the closure for the entirety of archery season.

I would of hunted the whole season because I had the tag in the first place. Turning it in would not have been an option for me.

I'm hoping wdfw makes this the new norm. Test hunt your tag for 6 days and if your not fully satisfied return it for all your points back..

I hope not. Would have hated if the Big Nasty thread ended with, "ended up calling it quits, not enough bugling"
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Besides killing bulls on the last day is so stressful.

So much wrong with this situation IMO. Did you inform the WDFW that you hunted for 6 full days before you asked for your points back? You should've kept hunting because you'll likely never draw that tag again, ever. Even with 18 points. You didn't even hunt the good days of the season. Rookie move, you screwed yourself over big time.
