Teal in the spread
« on: January 01, 2021, 10:39:32 AM »
Had this teal hen land about 5 yards from my kayak yesterday.  Just sat in the grass there for about 30 minutes.  Didnt mind my calling or fidgeting at all.  Every time a hawk or eagle would fly over it would lay its head down and stay still until it was gone.  Pretty neat the things you see sometimes.

Growing up I did a lot of jump shooting in ditches. Teal were always entertaining. I would pop up above them and sometimes had to yell, sometimes had to sick the dog on them and sometimes had to throw rocks at them to get them to fly. Hard to beat on the table if you ask me but I also grew up eating duck every other day.

I shot a teal drake later in the day.  Im not against shooting the hens but she flew in so fast and was to close so I just watched her until I got a shot at something else.  By then I didnt want to shoot her.   :chuckle:
