So my kid just finished the online course but there is no field day now?? Is he done then?? Really wanted him to do the field day and he was looking forward to it as well. Anyone know what’s up with it?

As of right now the field day portion is online.  No in person field days.

I think last time I heard if they are over a certain age it’s online and they finish the whole thing online. If they are under the age like they have to do a field day.

If 9 or older there is a virtual field day they can take online. If under 9 they have to contact the regional office and they can get you setup to do an in person test.

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife currently offers an online only class due to COVID-19. The course goes over firearms and outdoor safety, wildlife management, and hunter responsibility. Students 9 years of age and older will receive their certification upon completion of the online course. Students 8 years of age and younger are required to complete an in-person field skills evaluation prior to certification. For more information on the in-person field skills evaluation please contact our customer service staff at 360-902-8111.

Note: Students 8 years of age and younger who do not pass the field skills evaluation class are required to retake the online class before signing up for another field skills evaluation class.

Yep, my girls just finished theirs right at Christmas.  All done since they're both over 9.

There is not a separate field day for students 9 and older. When they complete and pass the online course they are certified and can purchase hunting licenses. Students 8 and younger must arrange for a field day.

I just went and looked. Since he is 9 he should be done.

One thing I tell all the parents of young students they can retake the test any time they want or go to a traditional class when they are available again. It’s a good idea when they are 16 or 18 to go through again as a refresher course. It does cost again to do online traditional is free.

Yes. I really want him to do the field day. Since he can’t I will set something up and have a field day ourselves until it’s possible for him to go. Prob make him go when his sister and brother go as well. Can’t hurt.
