Black tail hail marry
« on: October 30, 2021, 09:39:50 PM »
Long story short been after a good buck that I saw last year and waited till these last few days to go into his zone. 2 days ago I lost my binos in some thick ferns so today decided to go in and find them they were lost in a 100 yard long section where I had them and than I didnt.. Knowing I would be loud flipping ferns over etc i figured I would rattle and can call a few times as I went in mainly looking for binos but trying to halfway hunt as the wind was also terrible. Get to the tree i stopped at and pretty much much said *censored* it and started looking like one would for a shed.. Next thing I know I hear crashing and heres this decent 4 point cruising away.. He either held still even though I was loud or came in after I passed but the wind was blowing towards him..i panicked with 30 min light left and no way to cut him off, i rattled a few times and can called called and waited.. Nothing.. Question, do I go in there tomorrow and try and rattle again or still hunt ( which my be impossible tomorrow in this alder swamp)or is my cover blown.. Or do I wait till Muzzy to try my luck as he will be there.. The deer I saw today and am after is this guy or his brother and there dam hard to find in this swamp.. Caught him a year or 2 ago in the timber Nov 14 but otherwise lives in a swamp

I took one of my famous short cuts down the mountain yesterday.  Told myself I'd never go into that mess of blow downs devils club again when I got to my bike. That's when I realized that I left my rattling antlers in there.  >:(
After hearing your story, maybe I should go back after them. :chuckle:

Have you deployed game cams in the area to catch his movements?

If can find where he comes and goes, put up a tree stand on his travel path.

The ladies will make him screw up (pun intended).🤣
