I looked at it a while ago. Decided I didn’t want the hassle. YouTube got tons of videos on it

Yeah, super easy.  Set a mole trap, catch a mole and then leave it in the tunnel for a week and you will have a pile of maggots.  Might be tough under snow, but during the summer it's not hard.

I don't know of any pet stores in your area.  But if you are in Spokane petco or pet smart have jumbo meal worms for the reptiles.

They are monsters.

The 4 year old sister of one of my 4-H kids has a mealworm farm.....

I raise mealworms. It’s easy. Had them going for 4 years or so from a dozen or so to start. Feed them oats and apple cores or any other scrap that has good water content. I clean them once every few months when the dead beetles smell.

I’ve done those big “super worms” too. Mine died after a couple years, they need more water I think. Their lifecycle is much longer and they take more care but are basically the same. If you can’t find any I’d give you some mealies if you’re ever in Spokane.

I tried back in the 80s to raise meal worms. I had a Thompson’s Chamleon at the time. They all ended up as Beatles  :chuckle:

Honestly it was not worth the effort.

I also switched to Power Bait Maggots (pink) for Kokanee. Much more productive!

I raised mealworms too for a couple years to feed to my chickens. The setup I had needed weekly care, and I wasn't getting to it that often, so they weren't producing much. But I'd be glad to share PMs about the setup I had, etc.

I think I'm going to go with the petco option  :chuckle:

I did a bunch of youtubing on it, they want to be 85 degrees, I need sifters and tubs, weekly maintenance, pupas, beetles...

Yuck, If I could fish more often (everyday) then ya

If I buy live petco worms, how long until they pupate?
