POW black bears in the alpine?
« on: March 12, 2026, 04:24:38 PM »

This is more daydreaming than anything else, but does anyone have any thoughts about hunting black bears in the alpine on POW (or Kuiu, etc.) in Aug-Sept?  Just google searching, it looks like everyone is targeting black bears on salmon streams that time of year.  But it's much more appealing to me personally to be up high if I can be (combo blacktail, black bear sounds awesome!).  Bears feeding on salmon just don't do it for me.  I'd still entertain doing black bears from a skiff in the spring, but there's just something about walking around in the woods.  I don't have a tag in hand or anything, just wondering if I should start putting in.

Thanks in advance, and good luck to everyone hunting bears this spring.

I believe the OP means Prince of Wales Island, in Alaska, and the bear seasons in Alaska are quite long.  Here is a guide and some general info

Ha ha, yeah I was referring to SE Alaska.  But appreciate your help, Jason.  That's a good man right there!
