Predator Derby 2026!?
« on: May 27, 2026, 04:46:22 PM »
Now hear me out! I have always wondered with the amount of conversation amongst predators and the over abundance of them. Why not share intel in order to harvest more?! Haha I’ve thought why couldn’t there be a predator derby for bear or cougars?

Wouldn’t we want to reduce overall predator population to support deer and elk populations?

 :dunno:

There are so many bear in this state, anyone that puts a little time in learning how to hunt them can kill them.  Problem is you can't kill them fast enough.  The amount of cubs we see yearly is crazy....... For every bear we kill, there are 5 more growing up to replace them.    :bash: :bash:

Clarks all sport here in NE ,would give a free rifle at the end of coyote derby.
So they banned it

IMO it was banned because people blasted pictures all over with piles of dead coyotes, bragging about how many were killed.  The anti's got ahold of it and immediately went to their anti friends on the commission, and in the department, and got it banned..... because... OMG, they killed so many beautiful coyotes~!~!!~!
</rant>

I will continue to say, the less they know about things.... the better.

Haha no joke!
I just saw this past month of a turkey rodeo tournament. Not sure if it was in Idaho but I thought that was *censored*.

I'm reasonably certain the reason coyote contests were banned is because legislation was introduced by democrat legislators and the democrat majority voted to pass the legislation and the democrat governor signed it into law. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong?

I’m not gonna say what state or town, but we travel over to do a HUGE coyote derby every year. Has huge prizes and money involved. But tons of fun as well.

I think you are wrong. The rule that makes coyote hunting illegal is a WAC, which means it was passed by the F&W Commission and not the Legislature. WAC 220-412-110 Key part:( (4) Contests involving unclassified and classified wildlife species without a bag limit are prohibited and will not be permitted.) so in fact if coyotes had some kind of bag limit you could get a permit for a coyote contest, $70.
It all happened in 2020 so not that long ago. There was a long thread on here about it at the time.
