how do you carry rangefinder
« on: September 06, 2009, 08:51:26 PM »
curious to hear how you guys carry your rangefinder while bowhunting. i have one of those gear keeper zinger things and i saw a dude using one of them to hold his rangefinder and thought that it looked like a good idea, so i hooked mine up to try it and it works well but seems to be a little noisey for my liking.
i suppose i should step up and get a new smaller one that is easier to get in and out of my pocket.
i can't seem to figure a place where it isn't swinging and banging against something else.

I use this, and it works great, quiet and protective.
check out the price!?  must be a closeout.  66 cents?

I just keep it in my pocket for easy access, out of the case. That way won't swing around, get dirty, bump into things, or get rained on (even though it is waterproof).

My binocular harness came with a little D ring with a snap on it that hooks onto my rangefinders cover.  I have it clipped into position so that I can just grab it and it slides up the strap right up to my right eye.  The rangefinders cover is neoprene so even if it hit my binoculars, it doesn't make any noise.  Works great.

Carry mine in my pocket but I have found it difficult to get in and out when I have a deer close. Just too much movement. But at the same time I'd rather scare off a deer than take a bad shot.

I just wear mine on my neck on it's string and put it in my front shirt pocket.  I'd like to have one of those bino slider thingymabobs, though.

My shirt has a front pocket so I plan to carry it with the lanyard and tuck it in there. The pockets close via velcro so I think I'll just have to leave the pocket open.

Most of the time it's in my front pocket of my shirt.  Occasionally I have it in its case attatched to my pack and tied off to a spot on the pack.  So I can shoot the range and just let go of the rangefinder.

I hook the case of mine on the shoulder strap of my pack, and secure the cord it comes with to the shoulder strap, also, dummy cord style.

I just got one of those retractable things too and I don't care for it.  Couple of reasons why first is that it is noisy, second it occasionally gets snagged on things and snaps back making even more noise (and in one case it hit my nuts  :o).  So, I am going to stick with the rope that it came with.   :twocents:

My rangefinder case is on the hip belt of my pack.  Works fine for me.

loop the lanyard through a belt loop (so I won't set it down and forget it) and drop it into a cargo pocket on my pants or in a side pouch on my pack.  I don't range animals, I range shooting lanes at each set up.

I use a Nikon Prostaff and it comes with a lanyard that is long enough to go around my neck and one shoulder and it tucks neatly in my armpit. I just slide it around when I need it, and drop it right back into place.
