I always have double what I need.
if it's an hour or two I'm set for many
if it's a day trip I'm set for overnight
if it's a single night I'm set for two

A rough time in always beats a rough unplanned trip out.

I do the same thing, I'd rather have too much than not enough, takes up a little more room but much less stressful.

i never pack for anything. i carry a waste pack with 8x bino, 2 hunting knives, sharpener, first aid kit, poncho, trail marker clips, and bag for heart and liver, and cliff bars and 2 bottles of water/juice, lighter.

this is what i carry on every hunt, even extended hikes 5+ miles. i should be smart and pack more. but im always very carefull when hunting not to do anyting that will get in stuck or hurt.

this year im gonna add a head lamp cause i had a 2 mile hike in the dark last season.

if I am hunting outta the truck, I take the kitchen sink. If I am in the backcountry I am very minimal. So minimal that someday it will screw me, but, then I'll learn :dunno:

Same here, I take all my normal gear, then I go through and "impulse" shop for all the what-ifs.  And at some point, I'm usually glad I packed all the extra stuff.

I guess I am the guy that uses all the extra stuff you pack. I pack very light- Gun, ammo, license, water, poptart. Lets go and worry about the rest later.

Why is it also that not just one person in your group over packs but everyone does. So realisticly if you have 4 people in your group for a three day hunt you end up with enough food for a month. :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Gotta love it!

You think you guys over pack, you should see my camper after my wife stocks it for me. I could live out of that thing for half a year with all the crap she put in there, the longst I've camped out of it for a hunt has been 2 weeks.
