S.O.B. - Someone was going to kill that buck so it might as well have been someone in my group. As a matter of fact another hunter had the same idea and was still hunting past me not five minutes after I shot.

Besides that, I like steaks and he will be more tender than last weeks bull.

I dont worry about other people, and I would rather eat a tag than shoot a rat.As far as steak goes Safeway has a good meat dept.

I don't expect everyone to do things my way, why do you seem to think your way is the right way?  arrogance or to feel self important?  This is not the way to make friends here.  It is one thing to discuss and even argue hunting techniques and styles as long as people are hunting legally and enjoying themselves who cares.

sorry BTKR this just annoys me and I have all kinds of rules for myself for hunting and life......

TO S.O.B.,
Your name is fitting. I think you should think about what you are posting before you hit the post button. Not everyone is a horn hunter and I bet that deer is going to taste great. I would way prefer a good tasting buck over a narly tough one. Yes, we all hope to get wall hangers but that's not always possible.

Safeway does have a good meat department I agree. Sounds to me like you are one of those hunters that kill for the trophy and leave the meat. There was a posting about that here recently that traumatised a little girl.

Just think about what you are saying. Sounds to me like a great hunt and great follow through to recover a poor shot.

NICE BUCK and I bet it will be goooooood eating.
Hunt em, Kill em, Eat em. Do not hunt em if you aren't going to eat em.

Nicely done!  Love the story and the look back to 1979.  Hunting is WAY more than horns, antlers, skulls, and hides.

I agree with Galpster.  Your name is very fitting.  I've known BTKR for about 3 years now and I am willing to bet he could school you on the ins and outs of shooting Big Blacktails.  You opened your mouth befor you knew who you were talking about.  That is the smallest deer I have ever seen or heard of BTKR tagging.  Mother nature isn't picky when it selects what animals survive and which die, so why should he be?

Do you know how many trophy deer I have seen in my 7 almost 8 years doing taxidermy?  When I hunt I could care less about shooting a record book buck.  First legal deer I see within range is getting shot.  Last year I shot a spike with 2" kicker.

I don't care how good the meat department is at Safeway.  It's not Wild Game!  So if you prefer tag soup, good for you.  I prefer Venison stew.
