Deer hunting area in Snohomish County?
« on: October 24, 2009, 09:40:42 PM »
I just came back from eastern wa with no deer. I am looking for a place close to home (Everett), where I can give it an other try. Anyone know of any place within 1 hr of Everett? I'm looking for recommendations, for I have never hunted on this side. Partnering up would be ok too.

Take North Cascade HWY to Mt. Baker road. Tons of opportunity there

Are these the same areas that people hike?? I have been all over most of these areas, but mostly hiking trails.

Alot of people hike all over. My family has taken deer up there a few times. Back when the BT late hunt was still open up there (I don't know if it still is...but I don't think it's open for late hunt) my dad shot a big BT buck where the wilderness trial to goat lake starts. 3 or 4 miles in i think. in Nov.  On the way out we passed some cross country skiers going in. They weren't very happy with us cause they had to follow a blood trail in the snow and pass by a gut pile. :chuckle: Oh well....they enjoy skiing and we enjoy hunting. I shot my very first buck up there....many, many years ago.

Thanks for the info. I see on this side of the mountains, it says Black tailed deer - any deer?? We can shoot a doe on this side?? That is great, should increase the odds.

No, it is not any deer. No Doe's. Any Black Tailed Buck, it has to have horns...

999....READ THE REGS.  :bash: It's NOT any deer and It's NOT any buck. Some units have antler restrictions (2 point min.) some don't. Read the regs. and match up the GMU # on the map to what is open and the restrictions. It all depends an the unit you hunt. Again, read the regs. Don't go by what other people might say...go by what the regs say. I wouldn't want you to get into trouble by what he said or she said.  ;) Just my  :twocents:

Yes, I see that. I was looking at the line below the one I needed. Area 410 is any deer, the one above it is any buck and that is where I went. Once I got there, it threw me for a loop.....everything said no shooting per Reg XXXX. At first I didn't understand that they were talking about rec shooting. As I said before, I have never hunted on this side, only out east, so I need to get use to the differences.

Sultan Basin area sounds good, did some fishing up top a few years back. Nice country. I have this coming Friday off so I'll try to get up there then. Today I did go on Pilchuck, man! that area is thick and I didn't see very many deer trails, only a few tracks. Hear 3 or 4 shots, but they seem to be coming from the same direction. Someone target practicing or something, who knows. I wanted to go up top, but there were about 8 vehicles there so I found a side road down below, but like I said, it was real thick and most of it was straight down on one side and straight up on the other.

If I didn't mention it before, I want to thank everyone for being so helpful. This is a great site with lots of good info.....people.

Looks like many on this board are getting bucks. We just spent just over a week, South of Republic and there were 5 of us total, 3 adults and 2 14 yr olds. Not one of us saw a whitetail buck! One Mule 2 pointer, but no legal bucks. Lots of mule deer doe and a few whitetail doe, which we got two of the 3 doe tags filled (two youth and one senior). This is the first year we didn't see any bucks hanging in camps, only saw 2 doe hanging the hole week (not counting our two). Must just be that area. This year, there were only a few hunters there too. Usually there are a ton of people there, but not this year. They must have known about the lack of deer in the area. I guess it pays to do your research in advance.
