"
Happy Glock owner now, no question about reliability!
"
I was wondering when someone was gong to say something like that. I used to
hate
Glocks. No Tupperware for me. And ugly as hell. When I started looking into concealed carry pieces it seemed like an awful lot of owners of new, higher end 1911 style handguns had to deal with reliability issues that needed "breaking in" or fiddling with this or that to remedy and some were temperamental with ammo.
A carry piece needs to go bang - every time - no matter what. One day on a whim I did what I said I would never do. I purchased a Glock 27. To say that I am impressed would be an understatement. The gun is incredibly accurate and has
never
had a failure to feed or failure to extract. I fell in love with it and bought two more, a G35 and then a G20SF. The G35 has never failed to operate either. I haven't got around to getting the lead out of the G20SF yet so we'll see.
Here is a neat video of a guy shooting a stock Glock 27 at 230 yards. (No, that isn't a typo.)

Damn it! If you'll read my posts.. I took pains not to say anything bad about any one kind of pistol brand or design. No support for 1911's or degrading words about other models/brands/designs. I won't even look back, but I'm pretty sure 'I said 45acp Pistol' and I refered to the 45acp cartridge as being potentially accurate. I did link to some threads about how not to modify/polish a feed ramp area for a 1911 because the OP did reference a doublestack version of a 1911. Now this dog-gone Glock crap shows up 'out of place'. My Chevy is better than your Ford! (I drive a Ford!)
That video is not impressive at all... Lobbing a slug at more than 200 yards from a 5" barrel is not science. It's morter fire! Woopty doo!
Now... Fire a bunch of LEAD via that POLYGONAL rifled barrel and see how long it lasts. Or the brass that was fired from the unsupported chamber being quite aware of the internal stress fractures in the metalurgy even before the bulge in the base of the case shows up.
OMG a trigger that.. Well... Leaves more to be desired. Squirt guns are PLASTIC! My kids had plastic guns as toys! Slippery grips.. Ick!
No thanx.. I'll pass.
JOHN MOSES BROWNING DESIGNED THE BEST SEMI AUTOMATIC PISTOLS THIS WORLD WILL EVER KNOW. EVERY GUN MANUFACTURE, 'EVEN GLOCK', LOOKS AT THEM TO SEE WHAT CONCEPT THEY CAN ROB TO INCORPORATE INTO THEIR NEWFANGLED MODEL.
My 1911's go bang every time I squeeze the trigger. No modifications or sending them back to the manufacture for repair to get them to do that. LSWC, RN, RNHP.. Doesn't matter. And they're METAL. When I pick one up, I know I've got a GUN in my hand.
There! Hows that for a biased opinion about a gun design?

the only thing that that video shows me is that (1)a glock will shoot a bullet that far and (2)that dude can lob a bullet in at long range. I bet he could do that with anything almost...
disclaimer-
I don't own a glock or a 1911 anything.

Note that it was also a Glock in 40s&w. A bullet that weighs quite a bit less than anything fired in 45acp. Trajectory is a 'bit' different. Put six or eight metal plates up in a 10 foot area, I bet I could hit one or more, a few times BLINDFOLDED!

yeah the 1911 must be a seriously flawed design, otherwise almost every gun manufacturer would make one.......... oh wait................. they DO!!!
God knows I have NEVER heard of anyone having had ANY problems with their plastic guns
I tell you what, my 1911 is as tight of 1911 as you will find, and has fed EVERYTHING I have put in it (except some truncated coned bullets we loaded up, but all we had to do was tweek the OAL)!!!!!!! Show me a Glock that is capable of a 10 shot group at 50yds of 1.4".......................... No?? Well I can show you some 1911's that can, I just happen to own one
there I spoke my peace. Now how about we get back to the Original topic

I think the message that's sort of written in the fog here is that not all bullets feed reliably in all guns, even for which they were intended. And detailed gunsmithing should be left up to those that are trained to do so.
Are some of us 'pretty good shade tree mechanics'? Yup. Can many of us correct a tooling defect in a given firearm or make a modification/enhancement to one? Yup. But some of us should just leave well enough alone and pay the experts do the job, (just as I allow a well trained technician inspect the septic system for my home).
I would think that Corbon, would design their bullet to feed through the most popular guns in the world, thus attracting those gun owners. I'm guessing that there are more 'Colt and Springfield' 1911's built than every one of the polymer guns combined. (I point out Colt and Springer since they were the original military contractors to build JMB's design but don't forget about the Remington Rand, RIA and others.) If it won't feed through a 1911 style pistol, then I don't want anything to do with it. That said, my 45acp defensive bullet is Winchester 230gn HP. The HP opening is more than .2" deep and .240" across which is more than half the diameter of the bullet. These feed very well through any semi-automatic pistol and expand as well as the Corbon or Black Tallons. But this bullet is not marketed very well so not many people know about it.
so think of it this way... Just because you can put 35" tall tires on a 4x4 Chevy Luv with a four banger, doesn't make it the most optimal performance decision.
Are guns any different?

Damn. I hope you guys showered this morning. Getting your panties bunched up like that is liable to leave skid marks. You'd think I said that I had converted from Christianity to Islam.
Enjoy your 1911's. 1911 was a great year. Some notable events included the following
January 7 1st airplane bombing experiments with explosives
February 6 1st old-age home opened in Prescott, Arizona
March 3 1st U.S. federal cemetery with Union and Rebel graves opens, Missouri
April 30 Portugal approves woman suffrage
May 15 Supreme Court dissolves Standard Oil with the Sherman Antitrust Act
May 16 Remains of a neanderthal man found in Jersey UK
June 20 NAACP incorporates in New York
June 22 King George V of England crowned
June 26 Nieuport sets an aircraft speed record of 83 mph
September 25 Italy declares war on Turkey
And of course, the 1911 began service with the US armed forces.
Another neat video. Glock 20 at 352 yards:
glock long range pistol shooting (352 yards)

ADAMS....
Give it a rest. 352yds... Lobbing lead. ANY gun can do that. I'm really trying to figure out what point you're trying to prove.
I've done some 'unscientific' long range pistol shooting too. Long before YouTube and digital video cameras.

Yeah, didn't Bob Munden hit a 14x24 steel target 4 times in a row from 200yds with a stock, iron sighted Smith model 60 2inch barrel??

Bob Munden is my he e e r r r o o o!
OK, he's at least at the base of the steps of the pedastel that I put JMB, Elmer Kieth and a few others on.
