Hey Turkey Slayer - You're TWO birds behind!
« on: April 13, 2010, 11:24:34 AM »
Son - Iowa opened yesterday, with a trespasser shooting a bird out from under us (me and Julia Carol) at 610AM. At 940, Julia dropped the hammer on a big two-year-old at 32 steps. BTW - The new Burris SpeedBead is way cool and works most excellent! This morning, I was covered up with birds on Farm #1, but couldn't seal the deal despite having a big longbeard within slapping distance. Farm #2 paid off in spades, with a three-year-old that weighed #23.4 and had 1-1/4" spurs.

When you going to get out? And didn't I teach you anything? You should have gotten that little girl in The Family Way DURING turkey season. That way, the baby's born AFTER hunting season. We still have work to do, don't we? - Mom and Dad in Iowa

I've been getting updates since the 1st on a buddy that hunts georgia, mississippi, louisiana, and kansas, all before our season opens.  It kills me.  Tell your dad nice work.

Sounds like a good hunt in Iowa, I agree on the no pics deal though

haugenna - Julie and I are in Jones County, about 15 minutes east of Cedar Rapids. Good birds this year -

Tagged a third one this morning at 615. As for photos - All can be seen on my Facebook page under Michael David Johnson. Haven't learned how to post pictures on the site. If someone can enlighten me, I'll be happy to post 'em up -

To all The Evergreen State turkey hunters, good luck in the morning. Be careful out there, and SEE the beard before you hit the safety!

Thanks Deacon!  Glad to hear that you and Julie are really wacking em in Iowa this year. Will let you know how our hunt goes in Kentucky in early May.

Your "Son" hasn't answered you yet as he has been too busy Flash Scouting and Flash Roosting birds this spring!   :chuckle: :chuckle:

Heard from Turkey Slayer with a report from his first morning out:

He called in and missed his best Merriam Boss Tom to date (after letting a couple of Super Jakes live to see another day).   :bash:

But Slayer says no worries, he has the rest of the weekend to try and bring this awesome gobbler down.  More to follow from the "Quest of the Ridge Runner" from high above Lake Roosevelt!!   ;)

Another field report received from a different fellow turkey addict, do not scorn the new hen squealer, two gobblers hit the dirt after being called off of some adjacent private property!!   :IBCOOL:  Squealers unite!!

Son - Congratulations, brother! What's with the misfires?

In Ohio and headed to roost now for the opener tomorrow morning. Taking one of my Pop's hunting buddies in the AM, and then Dad and I are hunting with one of Freddie Zink's staffers on Tuesday and Wednesday AM.

Best of luck, and send me pictures and stories when you're able - Dad

Hey Turkey Slayer...................Slayer....Where are you?  ???

Still chasing that old mossy backed ridge runner that keeps tripping over it's beard?   Or is his massive feet all tangled up with those curved limb hangin spurs?  I heard that "Your" Boone and Crockett Gobbler has taken up a steady diet of Federal Flite-Control plastic shot gun shell wads?  Or maybe he is hiding under the camo netting hanging from Yelp's Turkey Hunting Cabin?

Hey Deacon...........................................  You seen Slayer anywhere??     :chuckle:   :chuckle:

Slayer...............................Oh Slayer................. Are you still TWO birds behind?    Earth to Slayer, come in Turkey Slayer!!!!!!  Scotty beam me up!   :P

Phantom,

I am giving the old boy a break for a few week. Next weekend will do it all over again. I have been chasing those ferry county bird all week. Lots of 1 and 2 year old bird but nothing big enough to put my 2ed tag on.
By the way no more flight control for me.
Here is last sundays bird.

Slayer,  Good luck chasing the ole boy this weekend.  Hopefully some of his hens will start staying on the nest so you can crank him up.   :)
