ELK hunting in Cheney

I herd that Cheney is alot of private land does anyone know where it is legal to hunt there without doing some door knockin.

not too much land like that around there... i can't answer your question though...  you'd be better off knocking on doors...    sorry don't mean to jack the thread,  but i just want to keep an eye on this thread.  and if anyone has info on who i can call or where to find numbers of landowners there either shoot me a p.m. or post.. thanks.

It's all private around Cheney, except for Turnbull Wildlife Refuge.  Plus there is little to no elk off the refuge and the few that are or do come out of the boundary are on private property.

So would applying for the turnbull hunt be benefical i just want a damn elk im from indiana and have killed my fair share of whitetail just trying to get something bigger

it would be ebneficial to apply for any of the permits. do you rifle hunt? you could apply for some cow permits also. there are some elk north of spokane also if you can find em.

This is the exact thing that I was told by fish and game a couple years ago when I asked them about damage complaints for that area.  Almost word for word.  Cant hurt to knock on doors, the worst they can do is say no.

there is some state land near lance hill road and there is some blm land in the area spend some time and do some pre season public land hunting. I do some yote hunting in cheney and found it very hard to get permission to hunt elk. On a better note I have seen 50 to 100 elk in one field. good luck

one rancher you might check on is DAVE HARRIS  he owns alot of land up by tyler which is west of cheney and i know for a fact that he has elk on his land just dont know if he will give permission good luck

I wouldnt waste your time with the small chunck  of state land. eiother knock on doors or hunt somewhere else for elk... alot of private and they hold up on turnbull or push on down

Dave leases his ranch out now, has for almost ten years. I am a friend of the family and haven't been allowed to hunt it for a long time. A lot of the ranchers lease ( there's good money in it ). I only know of a couple of landowners that give permission and I'm not sure how picky they are. I have pulled elk off of state land but anymore it all seems to get hit really hard. I grew up in Cheney, it is tough to get permission.
