Free: Contests & Raffles.
There are a few land owners that use the system the way it is and was set up for but for the most part it is a big joke! Your tax and license money goes to pay for WDFW to post their land so the owner, his family, and close buddies can hunt. Saves him the time and money to post his own lands and he has total control on who and how many people can hunt. The Feel Free to Hunt program and the register program work well, but this program here in south eastern WA is a joke that we as hunters are flipping the bill for. Now some will argue with me and there are some land owners that do it right but my Buddy who is a biologist for the state here in the Tri-Cities will tell you the game dept is getting tired of posting and patrolling ranchers land that have no intention of letting anyone hunt except close friends and family. Good luck.
how do you get their phone numbers to contact them?
i dont even bother any more. of the several that i have called over the years ive gotten no permission, half the time they never answer, the other half its always- sorry but i have regulars that come over every year & i like to keep pressure down. i understand that it is there property but it seems to me they are being paid to opperate thier own private preserve. nothing says they have to give permission to thier private property but they shouldnt get paid to allow just buddies & kin.

Good luck.I have a friend that's property is posted HUNTING BY WRITTEN PERMISSION ONLY, and I know for a fact that he put the signs up himself. I'm not sure how they did it in SE Washington but at his place the F&G doesn't do a damn thing to help them? All they do is make money off of special applications that they sell to youth hunters. I have also never seen them patrol his propery or the perimeter of it. They don't fix fence when someone cuts it to get a 4 wheeler in so they can get their animal that they shot right behind the shoulder and yet it managed to run 400yds onto his place to die. They tell them to call a tow truck when someone is blocking their gate and trespassing because they're busy. I think that sometimes the F&G has the landowner post their property incorrectly, and then the public reads these signs and it can turn into a big misunderstanding. Take my friend for example, the only way that he agreed to let people onto his place was for them to be youth hunters through a special draw. Yet they gave him HUNTING BY WRITTEN PERMISSION ONLY signs to put on his fence line? Which from reading into these programs I believe it should say PERMIT ONLY AREA. So remember that it's not always the landowner at fault for things like this. I know that this is the only example that I know of and it's not always the case, but this is how things go on his place.

Cole's place is a lot different than most. I have called on many and talked face to face with many over the years and like stated before if it is during rifle season you are probably s.o.l because friends and family have all the permission slips.
