Nice barred owl! Great pictures, especially the last one. I nursed one of these up when i was in high school, was walking along a road at dusk with a few friends, we saw it fly into the side of a semi trailer and bounce off! Borrowed a female friend's Lycra shorts
to immobilize the bird, carried it home and put it in a box. Fed it trapped mice from the barn for two days, was getting very active 3rd day, released it at dusk.

As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when. No habitat = no game.

Owls are awesome. I just hate it when they fly right over your head in the dark.

By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Now I personally havent done this, but we were routing a pipeline and it had to be surveyed for owls in the area. So the pipeline company hires these owl hooters to go out at night to call, count and identify owls in the area. Well one night he talked a few of us in to coming out......First he called with an owl hooter, got a response, pulled a white mouse out of a box (snake food, the kind at the pet store), holds out a stick, lets the mouse crawl out the stick, makes some squeaky noises with his mouth on the back of his free hand, and I nearly crapped my pants when that owl flew down out of the trees and picked that mouse off the stick. Way out in the middle of no where too.
Couple things he told me, "Eastern Barred Owls are the devil and should be eraticated from the pacific northwest" and "If you want to here different owl calls or get owl info. go to Owlpages.com." Its free.
