Any 300 H&H fans out there?
« on: September 05, 2010, 01:06:02 PM »
I inheraited a Remington model 721 300 H&H from my father. He refinished the stock with rose forearm and pistol grip end cap. He also hand checkered the pistol grip. His load was 68.0grs. of Military Surplus powder with a 180gr. Remington Bronze Point and a CCI250 primer. The 180gr. Bronze Point is hard to come by these days. So I am starting a new load for these rifle. What I was wondering is to replace the Military Surplus powder with H4831sc and using a Nosler 200gr. Partition? Working up a load for elk and moose. Even take it opening morning of deer season so I can feel dad is with me. Whats your opinion?

I think H4831 would be a good choice in powders.  I'd do anything with a 300 H&H that I'd do with a 300 Win Mag. I'd probably load 180gr bullets over the 200gr bullets. My choice would be 180gr bullets since there isn't much they won't kill in the lower 48 and they seem to be more common.

Sounds like you have a very nice rifle and lots of memories.  Probably time to get it out and hunt with it to make some more memories.

i have shot one of my friends 300 hh a lot it is a very nice gun. he has one of the older leupold's on it that have the olf target dot. its pretty sweet. we are both partition fans so he uses 180g partitions in it like i do in my 300 win. we both also use 4831h in our mags.

Thanks for your opinions. I loaded up some Nosler 200gr. Partitions with H4831sc today.  Will be out to the range early morning to test them and see which load works the best.

I checked online at both places that you mentioned a they only have the Remington 150gr. Bronze Points and there are seasonal only (out of stock). I know Remington sell 180gr. Bronze Points in their 30-06 factory rounds at one time.

Well I have worked up a load for my 300 H&H. CCI 250 large magnum primer, 66grs. of H4831sc and a 200gr. Nosler Partition. Shoots within an inch group at 100yds. Will be using it for mule deer and elk this year as my main gun and Have the 270wsm for backup gun. Will give her a try in about a week.
