any deer in 653
« on: September 25, 2010, 09:30:26 PM »
covered a ton of land today in the white river gmu. mainly back on FS70. didnt see a deer one. seen lots of tracks and lots of elk sign. But not a single animal. Surprised to not even see a bear in the big wide open units. Anyone have any luck in that area this year?

From past posts I've read is that area is heavily poached out by natives.

 :yeah:

It is heavily hunted/poached by tribes, and heavily poached by general citizens, mainly because it so so out of the way and there is so much open space.

Quite honestly, you drove on the one road system that I would stay away from in the White River unit. The FS70 road system is basically a freeway with the amount of people on it (it's paved) and there really isn't a "dead time" for that road system, there are shooters, partiers and all kinds of illegal things going on year round on that system. If I were you I would drive some of the FS roads on the south side of 410 (70 is on the North). Personally I wouldn't even hunt this area for deer, it's been so poached out by the Muckleshoots and regular citizens that it's pathetic, the elk herd crashed because of the Muckleshoots. However it is one of the best bear units in the state. If you have any questions send me a message.
