Anyone hunt/hunting 284 Ritzville?
« on: October 06, 2010, 08:29:22 AM »
Just wondering if anyone had any general info on unit 284? I'm heading there this year sort of last minute and do not have an exact plan yet of where we are going to hunt other than a buddy knows of some BLM land we are going to check out. Not looking for any honey holes of course just general info like open places to hunt, maybe someone knows of places to avoid? Anyway thanks in advance and hope everyone has a safe and successful year!

Hi,  I know that much of the ground in the unit is private and not easy to gain access.  There is a pretty large chunk of BLM land on the Eastern border of the unit.  I have hunted the land and seen deer.  But I have also seen lots of hunters.  The land also has some hiking trails that no hunters use,  so be careful when your glassing the landscape.  I have seen some nice mule deer taken in the unit so the deer are there for sure.  Big open ground so you will have to hoof it.  Good luck with your hunt...

I hunt 284 every year.  Most of the unit is private.  Some is easy to get access on, some is very hard.  There are some great bucks taken in this unit every year.  My advice would be to get your permission way ahead of time unless you are going to hunt the BLM exclusively.  Those areas are pretty crowded.  Good luck!

I have a buddy who has the late season muzzeloader tag. I believe that there is only one. Am I right? If so, that blm land should be pretty good. Took my nephew over there a few years ago for a late rifle tag. Saw tons of deer and some nice bucks on private, but had a hard time finding public land he could hunt. It wasn't until the last weekend that we found the public area. He ended up taking nice buck out there.

It has been a couple years since I have hunted for deer over there but there is a good size chunk of army corp  land over there too. But like everyone else has said the big ones are on private land.
