Eastern washington Elk hunt
« on: October 08, 2010, 05:37:06 PM »
Anyone up for an elk hunt. No plans set yet except the east side. Open to any gmu. I would really like an elk this year. I don't know too many elk areas over there. I went to get my combo tags and told the clerk west side. Instead she gave me east side.  >:( and now they wont switch it for me. Called everyone.....WDFW .....the place I bought it and no bending on the rules. There really should be an option for this kind of mistake. Anyway, now I'm stuck with this east side tag and the rest of my clan is going west side. So I could use some help on general location/GMU and a partner to hunt with. Any takers? :dunno:  I don't want to know your honey hole. Its not hunting if you know exactly where to go. Just looking to be pointed in the right direction.

Thanks

Thanks 400out. Ya it really bites big time but it really comes down to being my fault. If I would have checked the tags right then and there, I could have probably had it corrected. I should have checked. :bash:

You should be able to swap it for a west side tag if you didn't apply for any special permit hunts.

Ya that's what I thought to but no dice. They said because some aspects of the season had already started that they would not let me switch. Even though I had noticed the very same day I purchased the tag. Since I didn't notice at time of purchase I'm out of luck. There's a good warning for everyone. You see......I took one for the team.  :IBCOOL:

You should be able to switch your tag.  In 2009 my hunting partner got hit by a truck riding his bike and was not in condition to pull back his bow for archery deer season.  3 days prior to the opener we realized we had to switch our tags or be out of luck to hunt the private land we had been granted to hunt on.  My hunting partner lives in the spokane area and went to the game dapartment office and they switched it for him on the spot.  I on the other hand got the run around on the west side.  After numerous phone calls to the local game office trying to convince them it was possible becuase my hunting partner had done it I just decided to go to Sportman's Warehouse (forget its new name).  Went to the counter explained the situation and had the name and number of the individual that my hunting partner worked with and I had also talked to.  The lady at the counter made a couple of calls to Olympia and it was switched and I had even applied for ghost points that year.  As long as neither the eastern or western elk season had started and you did not apply for a permit you can switch your tag.  Good Luck.  It was worth the hassle, we both had our bucks down within 1 hour of daylight on opening morning

Thanks MrT......ya I tried all that. I called Olympia, fish and game and everyone in between. The retailer even called for me while I stood there and admitted they made the mistake. Still no dice. I had not bought or put in for any special permits or tags. However, they said that since some of the special draw tag holder seasons had already begun, I could not switch. I was purplexed as well. Its not like I was trying to switch from modern to bow or Muzzy. Oh well,  I guess they are holding all the cards. I learned my lesson that's for sure. I'll will never leave the store without checking first again.

There ae plenty of areas along I90 you can hunt. Not far for you and lots of public land (along with hunters too).

What did you expect.

You are the one asking for help.

Sorry, but you will more then likely get generic answers to your question.

If you want more specific, go towards Quartz Mt. and find a canyon to sit on and wait for the elk to be pushed to you  :bash:

WDFW is taking a harder line on exchanges now. This is included in the regulations errata:

ERRATA BIG GAME PAMPHLET 2010
Corrections as of May 10, 2010
Page 13 (added May 10)
The Refunds/Exchanges paragraph incorrectly states that “Exchanges of hunting license
documents will not be made after the general season begins”. This should state that “Exchanges
of hunting license documents will not be made after applying for a special permit or after the
hunting season opens”.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.
