Copalis Deer?
« on: December 28, 2010, 12:28:30 PM »
Heading out to Copalis on Thursday for some Clam digging with the family. Going to hunt for deer out there (last day of archery season) any good ideas on where to go? Staying in Ocean Shores but I know it's closed to hunting, hoping someone that knows the area can tell me a good place to go and at least shoot a doe. If I get one there's a backstrap in it for whoever gives the good advise, and I AM a man of my word.

Thanks,
Dean

Just after you cross the humptulips river there are a couple gates on the right side.  Sometimes they are open but have been mainly closed last few years.  Or you can take a right just before the humptulips river on powell rd (maybe) then a right on kirkpatrick after u cross the river again and there are a bunch of walk in gates along that road a few miles up and a few drive in spots.  Not loaded with deer by any means but there are a few.

They should open a bow hunt in ocean shores.  Every year there is more and more there.  In laws have a place there and them deer cause problems.  Did see a monster for a BT last trip there.

Welcome to my hell...sometimes during the rut I come home from a day of hunting having not seen a single "wild" deer and their will be two monster bucks fighting over 4 does in heat, running around my drive way.  If I can get one to attack me maybe I can convince the city of Ocean Shores it was self defense...after I eat it and mount it on my wall that is. :chuckle:

Actually they're kind of nice to look at.  They respond to grunts and rattling better then most wild black tails too...kind of cool.

I got to know these guys pretty good from my front porch last summer...I wish the neighbors wouldn't hand feed them.
