How do you guys think the heavy snow from the winter will affect the elk heards?

I have always been told that heavy snow does not hurt elk much at all.  But don't now for sure.

Im no biologist but the longview daily news was reporting that they lost 150 in the NF of the toutle. I was in there a little a week ago and seen at least 20 from this year where I was and I didnt cover much ground at all.There is 15 to 20 laying along side of the hiway up there.. I have been in three other drainages in sw wa. and have seen  around 250 dead elk in those..Mostly cow and calfs. I have only seen 6 or 7 dead bulls..The part that gets me a little ticked is that there winter kill #'s always seem to be overly optimistic.. And if that is there honest estimate they need to get out of the plane ,,do some waking, That will give them a diff perspective..

One other thing that just poped in my tiny little pebal of a brain, I didn't see any dead deer from winter kill, I did find one mature blacktail buck that appeared to be a cougar kill.. But I think deer can live on alot of different type of brows, They seem to do fine on woody type brows.. Elk seem to need ,more plant type vegetation.. So that may explain the absence of winter kill deer around sw wa..
