Another good day in the hills yesterday, lot of deer and elk, but still no bear. I have become somewhat obsessed now. I am determined to get on one before the end of season. Had to miss this morning, but will be back in this afternoon if possible and tomorrow for sure

Went out Saturday to try my luck. I wanted to try a spot I found a fresh peel and fresh scat last week and give calling a try. I get about 1/4 of a mile down a old spur and see 4 elk feeding and they don't know I am there. I Walk a little further and a truck starts coming up the road, damn! Instead of backing out he proceeds to drive towards us. Nice guy but the noise of the truck had to of scared anything that was in the area. He said he was going to turn around and drove up the road to the next turn out and that is when a herd of 13 elk bust and start to crash through the woods, damn again. At this point I was like "ohh well" this area is a bust now but I still wanted to try to call in this area since I know there is a bear around. It is a very small cut that backs up to tall dark timbers, the peel and scat isn't to far into the timbers. My plan was to maybe get the bear to come to the timberline. I position myself on the small hill so I can see the entire cut. I start calling on and off for about 50 mins until dust with no luck. This was my 8th trip to the kapowsin for spring bear and that will be my last trip on the weekends

Well, didn't get to hunt as much as I would have liked this weekend, but I still had a good time. I'm new to bear hunting and hunting timberland like kapowsin in general. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to approach it. I have found a small amount of sign but nothing to get too excited about. It seems like everywhere I try to go is so thick you can't get though it. Maybe things will come together before the season goes out. From what I hear, a bear was taken on the 10th of May and thats it. Good luck to everyone

Heading back out tomorrow. I am going to try a timber patch up by the snow line. It is a nice south facing slope with real old dark timbers. I will not give up until a bear hits the dirt or the season ends. It's get serious time, putting away the bow and the muzzleloader and busting out the 7mm.
Remember bears also travel old grassy spurs looking for easy meals such as the grass on the side of thees roads
so don't drive down them. All you are doing is spooking them and pushing them deeper into the woods. I saw more than a few rigs doing this on Saturday

Well I didn't see any bears yesterday. Here are a few pics I have been taking along the way. Sorry about the quality of some of them,
my son was getting bored so I handed him the camera

I wonder if the last pic was made by a porcupine, what do you all think? There was another peel a few trees down that was much higher up the tree and no doubt a bear.
