New AR15!
« on: May 17, 2011, 08:35:06 PM »
Well I've been wanting to get one for a long time now..finally pulled the trigger  :IBCOOL:  Blackthorne products AR15 20" stainless bull barrel, chrome lined, adjustable stock, flattop, ncstar 3-9x42 scope with side mounted red dot laser and blue illuminated sniper reticle.  This is my first AR and I was a little leary to say the least, bought the receiver locally and ordered the kit from Blackthorne and the scope off ebay (new).  Had a buddy put the gun together, flawless, he had it together in 30 minutes.  Total package I have $700 in it and am more than impressed.  Gun shoots amazing...hitting quarters at 100 yards in no time and the scope is impressive to say the least, crystal clear and the red dot will go 100 yards no sweat.  If anyone is looking for a low priced AR I really dont think you can beat this for the quality, price, etc.  Im gonna have to get another job to buy ammo for this thing  :chuckle:  300 rounds through so far and not a glitch.  Couple pics of it and one of my buddy shooting it after we got it sighted in.
Coyotes beware  :mgun:

The rifle looks good.  The rig looks like my buddy's Yukon.  I call it the "Pimpmobile".  :chuckle:

Nice looking build. What ammo are you shooting? I've got an Oly with a 16" barrel and can shoot very tight 100 yard groups with the black hills blue box with v-max bullets. 55 gr i believe.

american eagles are good to go for practice and plinking. Try PMC bronze also. I've had success with those in even my picky AR

Cap.Silver - Scope is model # SRTP3942G.  Got this new off ebay for $130.  Like I said very impressed with it so far, lifetime warranty, waterproof.  AR is model # AR-RKV20.

Goosegetter - would you be willing to ship the ammo?  I'll definately buy it and pay for whatever the shipping is plus a little for your effort.

Nice set up.  I picked up the DPMS sweet 16.  I placed a Nikon BDC scope on it and it is a tack driver.  Fun to shoot.
Cut em!

I'm surprised no one has said anything about how its illegal to shoot over the hood of a rig in WA.

Since your thread is about to get jacked with a heated debate about laws and shooting over the hood I'll say cool gun and congrats on the purchse. Keep looking for those good deals on cases becuase an AR will eat thru a box like nothing. Regarding you shooting on the hood. Looks like you are out and about with plenty of open country and not on a road. Have at it for all I care.

I had no idea it was illegal. Every rifle I own has been sighted in over the hood of a vehicle.  :IBCOOL:

Oh ya, very nice set up for sure.

Thanks for the comments everyone....and if anyone has some tips on where to buy the cheapest bulk ammo lemme know.  The way Ive been shooting this is gonna get spendy :chuckle:

Well im not gonna spend the time to investigate myself, but I think that law might apply more to hunting scenarios.  We were not on a road, shooting into a bank at a paper target just for fun.....and you're telling me I cant rest my gun on the hood of my vehicle :dunno:  Guess it wouldnt surprise me in this state.  Regardless I will keep on target shooting over the hood of my rigs.

Just about everybody has used the hood of a truck as a rest when shooting targets but it is illegal to even rest a loaded rifle against the bumper in this state.

Not sure, but I thought that law only applied while on the maintained portion of a public road.

Can you by chance cite the law that says this Jamieb?

I know its a law, inforsable by WSP but I dont remember where I read it so it might take a while to find.
I did find in the 2011 hunting Reg's Page 67, under Violations and Penalties - Common Violations - A loaded shotgun or rifle in or on a motor driven vehicle

Cool gun! Just a quick chime in...

A gamie was nailing people two years ago in twisp for just leaning their loaded rifle against their tires, as they took off their back packs or opened the car doors, etc...they considered it the same as having a loaded rifle/shotty IN the car.

No one in my party, but we saw it happen as they were parked by us. Again, congrats on the gun! No joke about the ammo getting eatin up!
