Treestanding Elk--Very Good Book!

Guys, just letting you know the Treestanding Elk Book is finally available, it's by John Erickson, he's taken one heck of a lot of bulls over his 60 some odd years & nearly everyone from a treestand. He has put a ton of knowledge into this 132 pg. book from scouting on topos in new areas or well known areas. I read the book before its release & Wow! This is a great book with lots of well needed photos, it's 5"X7" long.

  If you've ever wanted to or already treestand or ground blind elk this book is a must no matter your experience, his knowledge & tactics are worth your attention, this guy is good! After reading this book you will have no doubt how to pick solid locations where wind will not give you up as well as the needed heights in selective areas. Just ordered 2.  One for me and one for a friend.  If it's anything like the rest of your stuff, then I know it'll be money well spent.  I've come to the conclusion the last couple years that treestands are where it's at for actually killing elk.  Lots less activity, but many more shots.  And you never know when a herd bull will come in silent after his cows lay down for the day.

Guys, thanks!  Todd, your buddy will really like this Book! You're right, Treestand Elk Hunting is very lethal!! (grin)

  Yes, the Book would apply to any species of elk, all elk drink & wallow & use trails as well as bed down. Too, all elk live & communicate with the same "elk talk" -- Although my good friend John does call sparingly at stand locations. His main defense is location location location!! There's an art to picking the right spots, it's no accident. This is no story book it will help you kill elk from a stand if this a style you'd like to know more about.

  Personally I like both running & gunning & Stand sitting Evenings, but I don't want to just waste my time I pick high odds areas to sit, the Book discusses these areas, you will be impressed by his findings & his results!

Does the book have a chapter regarding how to not go insane while sitting in the stand?    I've tried a stand before and could only hack a couple of hours in it.

Ha Ha, I used to think that way too! (grin) I just love running & gunning elk & felt a Treestand style of elk hunting was a waste of time, boy was I wrong!! It won't replace my running & gunning but it sure does have its place.  It's a very effective way & you would see it throughout this guys book, he's an elk killer for sure & he's danged good at it! (grin) Thanks!

Get the book!  I'm a traditional run-and-gun ground hunter, but this book has me out hanging stands.  If you want to understand more precisely, what, where, when, why, and how....this book is it.  There are many other great qualities to this book and the reader will soon learn too "believe" in thier stand, eleminating most (if not all) variables to becoming successful.  I've done well on the ground and like the approach, but I bump more elk than I bag.  I hunt extremely thick cover...it is really hard to be quite.

The author doesn't push any gear, it's simply raw technique and what's worked and what hasn't (90% success rate - do the math).....get it.

I just ordered it.  I am 6 for 7 out of a treestand.  Can always use some pointers.  BTW if you plan on staying 30 feet off the ground all day do yourself a favor and get a Millenium hang on tree stand.  Yeah they are expensive but your butt will thank you after the season.

I just finished the book last night. Outstanding book, It gave me more tricks and tips than I thought. Also comfirmed a lot of things I thought I was doing right....I just have to be a little more patience...
