Banks Lake advice???
« on: July 07, 2011, 05:41:05 AM »
Taking my 17 year old kid and my 17' Bass Tracker to Banks Lake for the first time Friday night. I have sleeping bags and a tent. I know where I am going to launch from and I know where I am going to fish (bass) but I do not know where I am going to stay.

I have actually been to Banks before and stayed at the state park at Steamboat Rock. The people I crashed in on had reservations, I don't, so, was just going to wing it. I have a friend that lives in Coulee City that tells me there is a campground there that does not get too busy. I don't, necessarily, need a campground other than the fact that I will have to charge my trolling motor Saturday night.

Anybody one here head over there before and just kind of "wing it" like this? Any ideas or input would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks in advance :)

Had some friends stay at Coulee City a couple weeks ago and it wasn't too bad. They ended up going up to Rufus and getting into some of those hogs. I know people that wing it and launch at either Steamboat or Million Dollar mile and camp on the lake instead of dealing with the people. Another option is the Electric City end and staying at Coulee Playland. :twocents:

We have winged it before and stayed at one of the overflow lots. I think it was either jones or osborne bay. Can't remember which one. Its right across from sunbanks resort on the north end of the lake.

My grandparents live over in Electric City so ive spent a lot of time over there and you should be able to find a spot at anyone of the campgrounds.  The only time they fill up are around holidays and when there are tournaments on the lake.  Coulee Playland is a nice campground and has everything you'll need.  The campground on the other end in Coulee City is pretty nice also you'll just have to go to Big Wallys to get fuel and what not.

I live in Electric City..All great suggestions. WDFW Access sites with free camping, Osborne bay (previosly mentioned)  Million Dollar Mile Access, and Barker Canyon.  Fee  to Camp:  Coulee City Park, Steamboat Rock, Jones Bay, Osborne bay West, Sunbanks and Coulee Playland.  Also in area camping...Spring Canyon Federal Campground.

Fishing Report:  Rufus is still producing fast triploid limits, Banks fishing is picking up..been slow (coulee city end producing more walleyes)  Roosevelt is almost full pool..lots of debris in water.  Fishing has been good for trout and bass.  Walleye is spotty but improving.

Remember your Discover pass.  Good Luck.
Wild Turkey, Walleyes, Whitetails and Wapiti..These are a few of my favorite things!!

My family and I used to stay a the Steamboat state park.. It's a real nice park with an excellent boat launch.. And fishing is good all around the park.. The north and north west side of the rock is best for us
Work sucks!!!! I should be shed hunting

There's a boat ramp about marker 12, I think its Million dollar, you can tent it there. We stayed at a motel next to Big Wally's. They have a tent spot in the back, I think.  :sry:

I live in Grand Coulee (North end of lake) and have been bass, trout and walleye fishing this area for about 10 years. Also fish a ton of tournaments. Feel free to shoot me an email and would be more then willing to give ya some locations, and what to use. I do not how ever give out spots online.. since lot of the spots I fish are in tournaments and im trying to make a pay check. Shoot me an email..

What kind of a pay check does a guy of your stature make at a tournament on Banks?

Alright, thanks guys. Gonna wing it tomorrow night then figure something out for Sat. night. I did make reservations at Sunbanks for the family a month out.

wabassguy1, as far as the fishing goes, I'm good. I know my spots already. I got them from a couple different guys that fish tourneys over there. I was more worried about where I am staying and that seems to be in the truck. Thanks anyway:)
