Thanks for the post Kain....
I'm glad to see that WDFW is stepping up and helping hunters with grizzly bear identification.

I just saw two bear this week that on a quick glance (having taken the MT test every year for many years) appeared to be grizzlies. They disappeared before I had a chance to evaluate them for sure, but I am 75% sure they were grizzlies. They appeared to have concave or dished face, with lower hind end and taller front end on both. What is important, is that having taken the test I immediately noticed these characteristics and was trying to make a definite identification. I can see that these tests are definitely a good thing for hunters and for grizzlies.

I missed two myself.

This will be the first year Ive ever hunted bear, so it should be interesting. Any pointers?

I do like that the dept of fish and game has taken the time to establish these online tests. Very helpfull.

Prior to this all Ive ever seen is a black bear butt looking like a bowl of jello running away from me.

I went through the training portion before taking the test.  Scored 100% on the first attempt.  I printed the certificate even though I've never hunted in Montana.

Great link got 100% i will have the wife take tonight since this will be her first year hunting
with me. She was just asking me about this sort of test because we have a lot of bears and
a lot of color phase in the 204. She still thinks one of the bears on our cam might be griz, i
i think blond/black.
