We may let you slide on your scope only being 10x. I am just not sure how you expect to see what others hunters hats say with only a 10 x scope.  :dunno: :chuckle: I do have to ask though, do you have a little pink skirt to put around the end of the barrel where the brake is?  :chuckle:

I'm learning in sewing class how to make one that will stay on...so we're working on that. I need to reinforce the elastic where the waist band on the skirt would be because the muzzle blast keeps blowing it off 10-15 yards away.

My favorite is a (pre detachable magazine) Rem 700 Mountain Rifle in .280 with a Brown Precision stock.

Awesome rifle and great caliber.  I prefer the non-detachable magazine.  I've been looking for a really clean one in a .280 for a while.  I've found a couple but they were beat.

There's some really nice guns in this thread for sure but I'm not a fan of packing a 9 or 10 lb. gun through the woods all day..  But I may just be a sissy!

Just set up a Featherweight M70 in .257 Roberts w/ a 3.5-10 Leupold on it for this year.

I've hunted with a Kimber w/ a 4.5-14x40 Leupold the last few years and with the scope and sling it's under 7 lbs. It's awesome to carry and shoots great.

Cool thread.  It's interesting to see what everybody uses.

That's the first new rifle I ever owned, but in a .270.  I also put a Brown Precision stock on and absolutely loved that rifle.

Ill be using my sendero in 300 rum for deer. With 210 Berger handloads and a brake. It has a 50mm lens and goes to 20 power. Not sure if I am a sissy or not. But if I am oh well. Ill use my bow on a deer this year also to even it out.

With a RUM, a 50mm lense that goes to 20x and Berger handloads, definitely not a sissy, brake or no brake.

I like it. But just be sure to not take any shot that is less than 400 yards. Otherwise you're defeating the entire purpose of having such a rifle.  ;)

why you say that?  it's made for way out there, but i'd be silly to pass up short shots?

I once heard a statement about 300 RUM's " you may hit the deer/elk and if you don't then you might get lucky and it will break a leg falling in the hole the bullet creates"  I thounght that was pretty funny  :chuckle:

I see a bunch of people calling 30 rum's being overkill, some folks say they aren't. I wouldn't think so ... just depends on the bullet. When I bought my 270 the only pills in .277 we had laying around were some old 130gr Remington Bronze Points. I shot both my deer that year with  them and holy crap what a meat gun! No matter if I hit shoulder or not there was a 5 inch hole on the other side! I shot the rest I loaded up at woodchucks and gallon jugs.

Conversly my My dad had a 416 Remington Mag, loaded with 400Gr hornady round noses. He shot a doe with it  and I dont think the bullet hit enough animal to start to expand. Entry and exit were nearly the same size. Now I understand that that a 225 gr 338 bullet is quite a bit smaller than 400gr 416, and the 338 will open up and a deer shoulder but with a quality bullet that is meant to retain it's mass it can not be as bad as/worse than the 270 i described above...

My gun is that same old 270 I bought when I was 14 (29 now), M70 Featherweight classic with a burris 3-10 on top, shooting 130gr accubons. Regretably this round is only slightly less damaging than those old bronze points. I had seen an add for accubons in a Mag that said "No foul, lots of harm!". You better believe it! Punched a nasty hole through my anelope last year.

Agreed mostly.
I do wonder if some folks are aware that a 300rum shooting 180 grain accubonds is the same bullet as a 30-06 shooting 180 grain accubonds is the same bullet as a .300 win mag shooting 180 accubonds (or whatever bullet you choose) etc. The only difference is the speed it's moving so.........why is a 300RUM overkill and a 30-06 is not?? A few hundred feet per second here and there can't make too much difference. It's definitely not making a deer more deader. Bullet quality and shot placement is where the meat loss come from. A Nosler ballistic tip is going to grenade when it hits and ruin a lot of meat, be it from a .270, a  .243 or a .300RUM.
