Normal reaction of a black bear being shot/ shot at and missed?

Just out of curiosity what is the normal reaction of a bear when shot or shot at but missed? I have seen youtube vids of bears being hit they roll and moan but they don't have any vids of people missing their shot at a bear.

Depends. Every Bear is different.
Did you shoot and hit/miss a Bear?

If you are lucky, the bear will run closer to you if you miss

No I was just wondering. This is my first year hunting. I have a bear tag but that is only because a friend made sense when he said "its better to have it and never have a shot, than to not have the tag and have one walk right in front of you". So I guess this is for future reference.

I've seen several bears act like they were not even touched and drop dead or run off a ways. You cannot judge how solid a hit it was unless they just drop. Touch off a round be prepared to spend whatever time it takes to find them or to know for a fact you did not wound them.

My advice would be to go back through the Bear Forum and read up on some of the stories, good and bad. A lot of times people add thier Bears reaction to the story, where they found it. What they were shooting, how far the Bear ran, etc. That would be a good start.

:)Hit a couple that dropped at the shot. Most common for me and for the people I hunt with is, with a good kill shot, is knock down, on thier feet in an instant run a short distance and fall. I strongly reccomend, if you can, hit them again!!!

We hunt in pairs and always have a spotter to tell if the animal is hit or not. Hard to tell whether a bear is hit sometimes. I shot at one this year that I swear I hit but my buddy watching the shot watched the bear run 200 yards then disapear into the timber.

I hit one at 35 yards with a 75LB compound, double lung, didnt move a muscle when it got hit. About a minute later, it slowly moved to its final resting place.
Now a rifle???
