Tail sniffen?
« on: October 18, 2011, 07:17:51 PM »
Just wondering if anyone has seen any signs of the rut kicken in here on the west side? I would think that it's just getting under way.

I've seen a couple spikes chasing does around. Also seen a couple bigger bucks with their necks all swollen up

Yes, for sure, got a 4-point blacktail at work been all around a doe. She goes this way, he is running after her. Back and forth for two mornings. He finally tires and lays down under a tree. I got some pictures of him from less than 50'. I need to load them on to my computer and post them on here. He was also tearing up a little tree.

Anyone been seeing any evidence of the rut late this week on the wet side? If so what general area or elevation? (if you feel free sharing that info) It would be interesting if we could keep track of BT rut info throughout the wetside on this thread.

I'm going out again to scout on Sunday. Will post any info found.

I saw a 2x3 blacktail buck chasing two does yesterday in my neighborhood. He was running them ragged. His neck isn't very swollen yet.

BVBH, you seeing this in the Skook?

This week last year in 454 I saw a couple of small bucks running around dumb. I'm heading up to around 4,500 ft on Sunday and expect to see some good activity if I can find the pockets.

You get an archery tag this year or are you hunting archery during modern?

Definetely a sign of the rut when you see more deer dead in the ditches. I was down near Roseburg this weekend and on the drive from Roseburg to Coquille I counted 6 dead deer on the side of the road. I assume its from the bucks pushing to does around at night  :dunno:

I went out to my usual area this morning and walked every square inch of it only saw 2 does but did see a couple fresh rubs that were not there last weekend, I think it's just barely starting to pick up in that area. Just like last year though, the deer have gone nocternal right around the rut. :bash: Whats up with that?

AK... The little guys were in the skook. The bigger buck was in 501 he was alone but cruizin. I have a multi tag this year and some private land in firearm restrictions zones I have permission in. Good bucks, and im planning to hunt that with my bow. Not much activity yet lotsa does and little bucks no big boys yet. I also hunt a bit with a rifle, but its gonna take a pretty nice buck to get the trigger finger to itchy :chuckle: I like shootin em with my bow so will be more than happy to hold out.

Just went out tonight and watched 3 different blacktail bucks chasing does. I know where i'm gonna be tomorrow evening! :hunter:
I love having relatives on San Juan Island! One of these bucks was a solid 4 point!

No need to push deer that are not hunted. Family obligations kept us from hunting tonight, just a scouting evening. It's on tomorrow!

Saw a couple really nice bucks this morning still running together, not a doe around.  I had to get to my youngest sons football game so me and the oldest didn't have time to make a hunt on them but seeing them together was a little discouraging, I was hoping that they would be hating each other by now.  But atleast they were out and feeding still an hour after first light.

saw a decent 3x yesterday about noon, he was by himself out in the open, head up and down sniffing.  Looked like he was beginning to swell, tried a little rattlin later in the area, no luck.  Starting to get pumped
