what do u look for?

what are the main things u look for when setting up your game cam? close to water? were the sun will be shining? were people wont find them? just tips for others to get good pictures or more pictures

most use an attractant.My elk cams are hung on wallows usually for deer they  have feed in front of them. As for placement mine usually always face north or south unless I can get them in heavy timber. The sun light will wash out your pics.

I have had the best luck with areas with thicker cover. I always seem to get more pictures of animals around places with tons of cover and ways for them to get out. I want it to be in a area that they feel safe in and know. I am not trying to bait them to my cams but rather slow them down for a picture

I also set up in brush. I seldom use bait, just pick the trail or clearing that looks like it show recent activity. Big main game trails usually produce lots of does, a few small bucks and an a occasional coyote.

Big bucks tend to use small brushed up trails that look like it gets use little.
If you can set up in areas that funnel the animals around an object like a large downed tree or steep terrain it produces everything.
 Walk through the woods and think like the animal you seek.

when I use mine for whities its to see the bucks in the area and if I will even waste my time hunting there come fall. I use bait/salt to see the bucks and if I dont get what I want to see I move. Cams then get moved in the area if I do find something I want to hunt, but mostly I use good ole boot leather and glass once I find a deer to hunt

In the summer I will put out salt and minerals to attract deer to determine what is in the general area.  Once I figure out the general area I want to hunt I will start to set up my trail cams on well used trails between bedding and feeding areas to figure out which trails get used the most.  Onces I figure this out I will hang my stands accordingly.  I then keep my cameras out to get an idea of when they are moving so that I make sure I am out there during those times.  It can also tell me when the rut is about to kick off or if an an area has gone cold.

Look for areas where several trails come together which kind of creates a hub, or pinch points like a well used trail that crosses a creek with thick brush all around it.
