Don't have anyone else to ask
« on: February 03, 2012, 06:47:27 PM »
Hey, I know this isn't a hunting question and the topic may get moved but this is the only page I have book marked and I have no one else to ask so here goes...I am fairly new to the area trout season is gonna be here shortly, I was wondering if any of the kind folks on this page could guide me toward some good fishin' holes close to west Olympia and because I have a 5 year old daughter I was wondering if there were any juvenile only fishin' holes in the area as well?

Almost time to start casting that Snoopy rod in the back yard.   Be patient there will be lots of news regarding fishing as the seasons as it gets closer.  Beside news there will be info posted on the WDFW web site.  Keep your eye out for kids only events.  I know they have one in Elma.  I am sure they will have a few in your area.

If you have a boat available, even a rower, the best lake in the Olympia area is Lake St. Claire on the east side.  Drop a worm below a bobber and you can pull up trout, some really nice pink ones (I think there are freshwater shrimp and definitely freshwater sponges in the lake) as well as the standard white meat planters, perch, bluegills, largemouth bass, and rock bass.

I caught, and ate, a 23" rainbow that was the color of a sockeye the first time I fished it.  Also caught, and released, a twelve and a half inch bluegill.  I think there are crappie in there also.  I mostly fished the deeper south end of the lake but got the bluegill in the shallower north side.

long's pond is a great place for kids.  they usually start stocking it heavily in february, at least they did when i was still young enough to fish there.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
