Hello out there to Michelle Nelson. I've been trying to get a hold of you. You've told myself and others to not call you which I haven't as you said you don't have time to answer the phone. I also stopped sending you emails as you said you never get them and that it must have gotten lost with junk mail. You told me the best way to reach you was through this website by shooting you a PM. Well I tried that too and still no response back.
You've had my bear now for 2 1/2 years and all I've asked of you was to send me any pictures of progress on the bear and I have not received any to date. You sent me a PM on here stating you sent me some about 2 months ago through email and asked me if I received them. I replied right back to you stating I did not get anything and asked that you please try and resend. I've sent 2 more PM's since that 1st reply asking for any updates and have not gotten a response back from you? I've seen you logging in and out everyday on this website and replying to others posts. Not sure why You haven't made the time to reply to me.
Last time we spoke over the phone was on August 14th opening day of bear of 2012. I was anxious to get an update and you told me you were taking it out of the freezer to start work on it in the next two weeks. I figured I should be able to get a picture by December of any progress as your shop is so far out there just to drop by and check it out. I don't feel that it's too much to ask of you for a picture 2 1/2 years into it now.
I think that waiting for a picture is just not going to happen and I'd like to swing by your shop this Sunday around noon to check out my mount and the progress on it.
I did not want to post this for the public eye to see but I don't know what else to do. All forms of reaching out to you have not worked.
See you Sunday!

Why does it take 2 plus years to get an animal back.....I have never waited that long for any animal. I have heard of a few people on this board waiting 2-3 years....this is a big problem. Why??
-
Pm sent got deer!
-
Why PM? tag

This is one way to skin a cat I guess.... :dunno:
-
This could be interesting. :yike:
-
Headhunters Taxidermy out of Plaza WA. 7 foot bear less than a year, top notch!!
-
Interesting. I think I would ask for your hide back.
-
Thats too bad that your having this issue. Sounds like you have made an effort to contact Michelle with no response. That really surprises me. On the site she seems like shes really on top of things in her business. But your not the first I have heard negitive comments from about her.
I hope you too can work it out. But 2.5 years is a long time to wait!! At least show the guy a pic of his fur! :)
I am assuming you put some kind of deposit down, if so you might want to think about small claims court and reporting her to the B.B.B.
Then forget about it and go out and shot another one!!!
If I ever shoot one I think I'd bring it to Charlie! But I'm not a good shot!!

This is one way to skin a cat I guess.... :dunno:
This is a good post....I think it is important for members to know if a certain taxidermist (member or not) is having issues filling order. I have seen Michelles work and it looks good, but if there is a problem getting animals back I don't care how good it looks, it is not worth it. This is the second member that has expressed concens with Michelles time frame and I find that interesting. I am curious as to what Michelles response will be.....there could be a valid reason. Though being difficult to reach is never acceptable. My taxidermist loves and encourages people to stop in and chat....see the progress. He is great.
-
Tagging. Michelle has work in progress for me and has done a good job of being in contact. Now.....if im still waiting after that much tine I to would have a problem.
-
Is the bear in question the one in you avitar? If so that chest marking is very cool and easily identified! Make sure she still has it!
-
The avatar is a sweet bear.
-
well it is obvious that the taxidermists have gotten over whelmed with the site and all the business they have gotten from it but we all know what kinda work they do and it maybe worth the wait if you want a nice mount :twocents:

Nonsense. There are a ton of taxidermist that do great work and are not members...if you choose to be a member / sponsor of this site and you get that much more business....you should hire more help and expand your business. Two years is unacceptable....period. (unless of course there is a very valid reason and the hunter has been notified).
I don't know Michelles side of the story so my response is in general....Maybe Michelle has a valid reason.

I agree completely. But when they start being difficult to get a hold of, things get iffy. Also if you give someone a time frame of when the work should be done, keep your word, especially after several times of pushing the date back. Either way 2 1/2 years is way too long, trust me I'm in the same boat...
-
Seriously.....I have talked to three taxidermist this year and the overall taxidermy business is exceptionally slow right now. People who were getting animals mounted 5 years ago and not doing it now cause times are hard. I shot my deer in late November this year and one of my taxidermist only had three deer in front of me. The other taxidermist has my bear and I will see a full body mount back in less than a year. I just can't believe they are that busy....
-
I know she has been struggling to catch up. She had troubles with her tannery a couple of years ago, had to go pull all of the hides she sent them, find another tannery, deliver everything, and it put her at least a year behind. She has had the buck in my avatar for a while, but when I PM her on this site, she generally get's back to me pretty quickly.

Not sure how long your work has been in the shop if you don't mind sharing that information. Has it been longer than 2/12 years. If not my question is why would any work on your animal be more important than mine? We all are paying hard earned money in hopes for the same result "One hell of a Mount" The reason I went to Michelle is because of all the great reviews about her and on how good she is with mounting bears!!! I wanted the best work done.
-
She has not had mine long enough to be done.....less than a year. I dont expect to be placed ahead of anyone. My stufff is fairly easy skull work. I was mainly posting to show that my experience so far is positive. Not sure where you got the idea about anything being a higher priority. I agreed that two plus years seems excessive.
-
I do not know Michelles side of the story but I am sure she is trying to get caught up :twocents:

Hey JJdavis, My turn around is long also. I know from experiance that if one tannery has issues getting work back to a taxidermist it plays hell with turn around times. I learned the hard way. 2010 I had to go pull a bunch of work from my first tannery because they were getting way too slow, over a 1 year turn around and the quality of the tan was getting bad. I ended up pulling about 50 hides from them in like late january . I then had to find another tannery and waited for another taxidermist freind of mine get his stuff back so I could check it out before I sent my stuff. He had all his stuff back in like 2 months so I got to see firt hand what the quality was like . It was pretty dang nice so I sent what I pulled and also and all the stuff for that year to him ....... well that backfired for me also because I had to pull stuff from him in november of 2012 since it was taking well over a year to get stuff back. A fwe things have been there for 2 years now ..... Thats another story, one of them is my cougar from 2010 :bash: Its a pain in the ass to have to rely on tannerys to get stuff back. And for people asking why dont I just tan my own stuff ..... well because that is a whole nother profession. I use to tan all my stuff but my quality was lacking and started using a tannery. I actually did make a investment on a wet drum and did tan quite a bit in 2010 but it was way too much work and too hard on my back. I am not a good shaver so I felt I need to use a tannery . Now I'm hoping that my new tannery keeps rolling through the tanning . I know they are doing a heck of a job and Im getting the best quality back that I have had. It sucks having issues and its is a pain in the ass to get cought up. Trust me Im bustin balls trying to get "cought up" myself. I can say trying to find someone competant enough to hire and work for you in the taxidermy industry is about as tough a job as it gets. Trust me I was looking for someone I could trust ....... 2 years of looking and still no prospect. I personally have contacted quite a few guys in the taxi field that have been in the buisnes quite a while. Some had it figured out , others didnt. There is actually guys out there with a 5 year turn around... wow.
Im sure she will get the stuff done , quality is great . Hopefully it gets worked out.

Good explination of some of the "behind the scene" issues, Charlie
I'm not going to pass judgement until both sides are out.
Michelle has been a long time member here and I have never heard any complaints before.

Here's the thing, part of running a business is customer service. If you can't provide simple customer service, then you should probably consider doing something else for living. So what if her quality is amazing? There are several taxidermist out there that do great work and provide great customer service as well. It's not too much to ask to provide status updates or be honest about delays. Sounds like you've made several attempts to reach her and you are getting blown off. :dunno: :twocents: So that tells me she doesn't give a darn or that something else may be up and she's scrambling to come up with a good reason/excuse. Sorry but 2 1/2 years is a long time to be waiting. And telling someone you are going to send pictures and not following through is BS. That was a few months ago too. At this point I'd say you have two options, sit it out and wait not knowing when you'll ever see your bear, or going to get what hopefully is left of it and taking her to small claims court to recoup your money. Hopefully it doesn't come to options two, but sounds like you might not have much of an option if she won't respond. Interesting note too that she is on her constantly and has yet to reply or reach out to you directly. Good luck buddy! :sry:

I wasnt baggen!! I heard you were behind. But I also dont think you would ever be 2.5 years behind. I have seen your work and I plan on bringing you work! Seriously!

I'm putting this out there that the issue isn't the quality of work going to be done by Michelle. I've seen the work she does and it's very nice. No complaints there. There was another post on here called What is an acceptable time frame to get mount back. I put in my story out there back then about the length of time it was taking to get it back. It wasn't until that post came out that she had ever called me directly. At that time she told me that my skull was done and I could pick it up. I went to her shop and she let me know of her tannery issues and some personal stuff that came up that she was backed up at that point. She ensured me that my bear was only behind one other rug mount and she'd start to work on it. After my conversation with her that day I felt a little better about everything. I even went back into the thread and made another good post back in there thanking her for her time. The excuses have always been the same about email stuff must be going to junk mail or that hot mail is messing up. As for the calls I stopped doing that as she said to stay busy in the shop she can't answer calls all day long as that takes away from work. Asking me to reach out through this website to have a conversation was my best shot at getting a hold of her. I've only done what was asked by her. As stated by others in a business world communication is key. When there is lack of that from the business owner it makes it hard for a client not to worry about what is going on. I believe only reaching out every so often is not crazy on my part. Myself and others are in the same boat and its very hard to deal with the same excuses over and over. It might sound like a vent here but if you were out here in the same situation and couldn't get a reply back in over 2 months very hard to keep faith in the person that has your animal. Makes your mind go crazy.
-
hotmail is going whacked...I can vouch for her on that........I can easily see how you are concerned too

Do yourself a favor and pull your bear from her. I just went through the exact same thing with Michelle. The quality of her work is never in question. She is just a horrible business woman. After 2 1/2 years I had enough excuses as well. Emails don't get lost in space. Pulling my bear from her was the best decision I ever made. Now I have taken it to a different taxidermist who will have it done in a month. I'm telling you, if she appreciated your business she would do more to show it. Take it somewhere else and stop the madness in your life.
-
WOW, I didn't want to be the one to start this, but I have been having the same problem with her. It's no big deal that I don't have my animal back yet but at least have the respect to return a phone call or PM in a timely manner, if at all.

Why is there some posts missing ? Mods ?

Hello out there to Michelle Nelson. I've been trying to get a hold of you. You've told myself and others to not call you which I haven't as you said you don't have time to answer the phone. I also stopped sending you emails as you said you never get them and that it must have gotten lost with junk mail. You told me the best way to reach you was through this website by shooting you a PM. Well I tried that too and still no response back.
Lets clarify some things first of all. I have NEVER told any of my customers not to call me. . . . EVER! I have also NEVER said I am to busy to answer phone calls in the maner you are suggesting. . . EVER!
I have told customers that when I am working in the shop and they call and don't get an answer that I am either on the other line, have a customer in the shop, in the middle of working on something that needs my concentration, or up to my elbows in a raw cape with blood all over my hands and don't have time to get it cleaned off in time before the phone quits ringing and it goes to voice mail.
If the phone rings and I can't get to it, or don't hear it and the person calling doesn't leave a message than I am not cold calling that number back. If it wasn't important enough to leave a message than it probably wasn't important enough for me to call it back. Why? Because roughly 70% of the calls I get that don't leave a message are Telamarketers. YES, before someone asks I am on the do not call list.
As for E-mails. Hotmail has been a PITA these last several months. I have not recieve a lot of E-mails sent to me and E-mails that I have sent have not made it to the individual I have sent them to. Email's that were (in the past) going in to my inbox were now going into my junk box which I usually don't check and they delete themselves I believe after a certain amount of time. So I never saw them. I have had quite a few customers come to me about either not getting an e-mail from me or me not responding to one they sent. I have tried making changes to my E-mail and things have gotten much better but I am still finding customer e-mails in my junk box weekly.
I have tried sending pictures to your E-mail 2x. The pictures are on my phone. I have tried texting them from my phone directly to your E-mail. I have never had a problem texting pictures from my phone to my E-mail so I am not sure why you did not get them. Are they going into your Junk box? or could a fire wall be blocking the them?
I will not be home Sunday. Sundays are my day off once there are no open hunting seasons. I have plans with my husband that day.

All understandable to a point, however you didnt address his mention of PMing you through HuntWa....which from the sounds of it was his primary way to get ahold of you....which would make sense with your being a Mod and on here quite a bit. :dunno:

Yes I did.

Sounds like they got in touch now . Goodbye useless thread.

I have repetedly made posts on this site of what my set backs are and how they started back in 2010, so has Charlie. So I find it hard to believe there are so may people that still don't know. Maybe it's that they don't understand since they are not taxidermists themselves.
If some of you think that I've been having the time of my life these last few years, think again. Same with Charlie. I know the stress and pressure that he has been under because I am going through pretty much the exact same thing. It is absolutly no fun being behind and I absolutly hate it! I've lost a lot of sleep and I know I have lost customers.
I have had to make a lot of changes in my shop in the last year. So I can get more time to work on mounts. In 2012 I raised my prices a little, quoted 18months as a turn around on mounts, and I also quit doing my own skulls. I am now sending them out to a skull cleaner. I was spending 4-6 hours a week on skulls, now I have that time to work on mounts. It took me a year to find someone I was willing to give a shot at doing them.
In 2011 I only took in around 50% of what I normally would. In 2012 about 70%. Not because I didn't have people wanting to bring me there animals but because I turned them away. The raised prices and 18 month turn around did not reduce the amount of work I could have brought it. It increased it. :dunno:
So I am not just sitting around and taking in a bunch of work that I don't plan on completing in as timely a manor as I can. The one thing that I absolutly refuse to do is rush through mounts and compromise the quility of the work that leaves my shop. I would much rather have people upset at me over turn arounds than quality.

Sounds like they got in touch now . Goodbye useless thread.
Actually seems like this thread was useful, and is still..... :hello:

Sounds like the main problem here is a serious lack of communication. Hopefully it's just that and not a load of excuses. Hopefully the problem is solved now.
-
Ok, lets try this again.
Pm sent Michelle
-
Michelle - I only posted this out here because I can't get a hold of you and I have tried all ways.
Phone - I understand why you don't answer while you're working that really makes sense. I've left msgs in the past and didn't receive calls back. So I stopped sending them.
Email - You've told me several times over the past 2 1/2 years not just in the past 2 months that you've had email problems. As a business owner if there were that many issues maybe it's time for a new email address through a different provider. Just a suggestion if you use that for communication between you and your customers and it doesn't work correctly and too many emails get lost to and from your email box this isn't a good form of communication. Potentially even losing future customers trying to reach out to you.
PM through Hunting Washington - I've sent you 3 PM's since November. You sent me one back in very early December stating you sent pictures to me and asked if I had gotten them. I wrote you back the very next day stating I didn't get them. I followed up multiple times asking to please resend and nothing back to me.
As for the email asking me if they've gone to my junk mail that is absolutely a no as stated in my PM I sent to you.
With all the lack of communication out there like stated in other posts the only time you've called me was when a seperate thread was posted and it was questioning if I knew other members on here. The other thread was started and another member on here vented their frustrations with the lack of communications getting back to them.
This message was only sent publicly to get your attention to reach out to me. Which has not happened. No phone call or anything. Just a response back stating you won't be home tomorrow as it is your day off. I think a simple call to me would have been nice letting me know what works best for you and we can coordinate when it will work out for the both of us. Enjoying time off with your family is important I understand.
Lastly I've received many PM's from other members some positive and some negative and I've handled that off this thread because everyone has a different experience and It's their own. I'm not on here to bash you or put down your business. You do awesome work as all can see on your website or if they've had the pleasure checking out your shop. I just can't get a hold of you. Hopefully we can get together soon and we can move forward.
-
Michelle, since we have the dialog open, can you give me an idea when you will give me this call? Your message is on the bottom and is from Janurary 5th, and it's following mine from the 4th. You may remember but I told you that I had left message on your phone.
Also I would like to draw your attention to the terms of service section of your agreement/contract paper work, section #8, it claims you will contact me in a timely manner if the estimated time will take longer that 90 days past quoted date. Note, it was nearrly 6 months past that date before I made contact with you, not you making it with me.
Now let's stop here for a second, Im not at all trying to be rude, infact I respect the work you do and know it can be hard to schedule that type of work, and I have no problem waiting. But look at it from the other side, I think you will find it will go a long, long way with people if you can pick up the phone and make a 3 minute call and say " it may be another 3,4,8 months" or whatever it might be, or if you say "I'm gona call you" then... well you should do it.
That's my peace, no hard feelings, I sure I will have a top notch mount when I get it back.

Sounds good. hope you have a good Christmas/new years holiday.
We had talked about having the velvet redone, is that still an option?
I will give you a call this coming week some time and we will talk about it.

All understandable to a point, however you didnt address his mention of PMing you through HuntWa....which from the sounds of it was his primary way to get ahold of you....which would make sense with your being a Mod and on here quite a bit. :dunno:
Yes I did.
Sorry, but you did?? Please cut and paste where in your post you addressed contact via PM because I read and re-read your post 2x before I responded...

Michelle - Here are all my PM's sent to you back and forth through PM's You can see date and times with responses. Let me know if anything was missed in the back and forth communications.

Hey michelle its matt mcgillis
I was trying to see if you could send me a picture of my bear being worked on. It would be a good thing to see it in the works. Thanks. Matt
Let me check and see if your E-mail went to my junk folder. Hotmail must be doing some upgrades or something because I've been getting more e-mails going to my junk box.
I'll get some pic's here pretty soon.

Any luck with those pictures? I'm not looking for a finished mount, just a progression picture.
Yeah I know. Waiting for hubby to get back in town with the camera. He just got back the other day.

The wait is what it is, taxidermy can be a slow process. The lack of communication however is completely uncalled for and very unprofessional. I also own a small business and I can tell you right now, she's full of it. If I had a problem with my communication methods that directly affected my clients I would have that fixed so fast it's not even funny. I see someone getting very defensive, which I would say is a sign of guilt. Also, being busy on sunday is understandable, but the fact you went to this effort to get a hold of her, and her response was a long winded excuse about whatever, basically she blew you off. wow, that's pretty *censored* for someone that is being cast in a bad light at the moment. Anyone with some class would have that door open at 6am tomorrow if need be. Show's a lot right there. If you own a business, and you are holding deposits you have a responsibility to answer the phone, return calls, and make yourself available, period. Im sorry but there is nothing worse than a business that makes excuses about why there PAYING CLIENTS can't get in touch with them, over and over and over again. Just can't have it, and Michelles responses thus far are just adding to the very bad pub. Take some ownership for petes sake.

:yeah: I'm glad somebody said it. As someone who has had a small business this is the exact same thing I was thinking earlier but didn't want to be the one to post it due to the fact my relationship with the mods isn't all peaches and cream. I'm sure Michelle does a great job as that's what I have heard but doing a great job isn't going to keep you in business if you alienate your customers.
-
yeah its hard to say much when it is not my mount ..Maybe I would be peesed to but thats why I do my own mounts :dunno: :chuckle: Just saying .. but it is a heck of alot of work to stay up all night skinning animals and thats something that has always steered me off of wanting to go commercial ...I am sure Michelle will get your mounts done and they will be of good quality ....Same with Charlie ...Thats what happens when you get as good as they are ! You see dollar signs but those dollars signs come with alot of sleepless nights :twocents:

I have no opinion on this except,
1-gmail and other email accounts are better, free, and can be set up in 1 minute, (hotmail has a size limit, if its too big it will be rejected)
2-if thats not working getting pics out, the pics could be posted here for viewing
3- you can also text a pic to an email address by entering the email instead of a number
hope it all works out

Same problem here.Dropped off a bear September 2010 and a deer skull for cleaning October 2010.Over a year later picked up the bears skull but the deer had not been finished. Was told both the bear rug and deer skull would be finished in a few months.Tried calling and leaving messages but my calls don't get returned.
-
@michelle why are using hotmail for business? Please don't use the POS, for the sake of your business.
Use GMAIL
1. Great spam filter
2. Great business tools for small business
3. dependable.
I'm a small business owner in the Web/it world, and if you can do anything to keep clients its to keep them informed. Most people are pretty reasonable folks especially if its not a time sensitive task. If I was you there would be a discount coming for the gentlemen in question. Just IMHO.
-
Much like a restaurant, if they serve great food but the service sucks, people will stop going. Sounds like a business model that needs to be adjusted.
-
I didn't take my bear to her for this very reason.
I have a bear at Charlies and it took almost 7 months to get my skull back. I expected that, he told it would be a while. He still has my hide and is doing a rug, when I asked him when it would be done , he laughed and said, maybe spring. I know he is backed up but when I was in contact with him he returned my calls or PM's. If he didn't I probably would have been pisssssed, but he communicated with me on the progress and I am Ok with that.
I hope you get the info on your bear but If it was me. on her door step looking to get it back and taking it to someone that would commiunicate with me better.
I am sure she is a good person but this has got to hurt her business and I have no problem with sponsors on this forum but her business I would I stay away from............ Sorry Michelle, just my :twocents:
I hope she PMed the OP but if not, why has she not responded :dunno:
-
Curious if you have heard back from her got deer.
