Found this on page 107 of the Arizona Hunting Regulations:
Take/Hunt From A Vehicle
(A.R.S. 17-301 B, R12-4-319) Pages 110 and 129
No person may take wildlife from a motor vehicle
(including watercraft and aircraft), except
as permitted by Commission Order, and under
the provisions of the Challenged Hunter Access
Mobility Permit Commission Rule (R12-4-217).
“Take,” as defined by law, includes pursuing,
shooting, hunting and killing wildlife. You are
unlawfully using a vehicle to take wildlife if
you intentionally drive around until you see
the animal you wish to harvest and then make
an attempt to take. “Road hunting” is illegal;
so is pursuing wildlife with a vehicle, chasing
or heading off moving wildlife with a vehicle,
and driving off-road to get closer to wildlife.
You do not have to shoot from the vehicle to
be in violation.

Great idea!
I'm sure there are rules in every state that should be looked at.
Better yet, how about looking at a federal standard? Maybe see if the current administration would look at creating a standard that is the same for all States?
-
Sorry, but that's just stupid. I'd like to know how that could even be enforced.
-
No boats for waterfowl?
As soon as you get in your vehicle with the intent to go hunting you are in violation, idiotic.
Nearly very person that hunts has to drive to go hunting.
It is far too vague and makes us all criminals up to the descretion of LE.
-
:bdid: I would probably pack up and move, and never look back!
-
Crud, there goes my grouse hunt every year! :(
-
Might work for the Amish.... Silly idea as mentioned above.
If you are trying to stop "road hunting" then just put very clear definitions into the laws regarding shooting from roads like what is a road, how far from the centerline or shoulder one needs to be, etc. We don't need new/more laws, we just need clearer ones that can't be interpreted however a warden/officer feels like interpreting it.
:twocents:

Yeah, lets volunteer to make it harder on ourselves and make MORE laws and rules....
Don't forget to include compound bows in general or any bow with a sight or release and of course, can't forget traditional style muzzle loaders only - no-inlines!
Seriously, aren't there more important things to focus on instead of petty little things like this??
-
The best deterrent to so called "road hunting" is the high price of gas. At $4 a gallon I sure cannot afford to drive around all day looking for a legal animal next to the road.

:yeah: And closed gates and roadless wilderness areas, etc....
-
Is that really a law in AZ. Where is BeanCounter? :dunno:
I wouldn't want that law here. What if you're just out sort of scouting for a new area after hunting for several hours in the morning? You'd get written up for road hunting. That is just a ridiculous law.

That's what we want... more federal oversight.

+1

Right on

There is no way in hell I would support this becoming law in wa. :bash:

Nobody would, which is why we will see it in the regs next year.

If you dont want to hunt where there are road hunters then go in the bush. Iys not hard to avoid road hunters. Why do you feel the need to rule eveyone elses experience ourtdooors? Just do your thing and leave the rest of us alone.if your such a hot shot road hunters shouldnt bother you.

That would be fine if there was not so many roads. I struggle on Google Earth in many areas to find a place I can get miles and miles in that does not just put me close to another road.

If you drive to your remote location, then by definition of the regulation.....you're road hunting.

Then by definition of the regulation.....you're road hunting.
Unfortunately. Oh I see. I meant to walk miles and miles in simply to walk closer to the next road.

Yep, that's my problem with it.

That's true. If you're on Weyerhaeuser land, most of the time you will either be walking, or driving, on a road.

That only stops the people like you and I. Most of the "hunting" rigs I see cruising the Entiat area roads during season are not really concerned with gas prices.

I sure hope not... but wouldn't put it past the dept of fish and wolves ... :bdid:

:yeah:
Its all already against the law and in our regs......and who would think wdfw isnt aware of how similar laws are written in other states ? Its extemely difficult to enforce any way.
Like said, we dont need more vague laws open to individual interpretation........if you dont like company, find a different spot.
So if you are moving from spot to spot and an animal jumps out, or you see it on a ridge, do you want to go to court to defend yourself against charges of intent to hunt deer ( or whatever ) from a vehicle ???????? GET REAL GUYS !!!!!!!
-
Who gives a rip if you "road hunt" in a legal manner? How many folks have "road hunted" antelope? I have. Lots. You drive, glass, stalk, shoot. What is so wrong with that?
-
Thats absurd.
Just the fact that you need to drive to your hunting spot, then hike 10 feet or 10 miles makes every person a road hunter. If you are heading out and you are 1/4 mile from your parking spot and see a masher you can bet every single hunter would jam it in park and go for it.

not me rolling stop have your buddy get out you keep driving :chuckle:

Probably just roll your ankle and whine like a girl.

Or if it is raining probably just sleep in.

I only hunt when it's raining!
-
We are joking around......Dinker rolled his ankle...rolled it BAD.....when we bailed out to chase a masher....I was the one sleeping in one morning of elk camp.
I still think it is an absurd rule.

As the animal continues to focus on the vehicle :yike:

Works well with Palouse Mule deer. So I have been told..... 8)

"You are unlawfully using a vehicle to take wildlife if you intentionally drive around until you see

Please explain how the enforcement officer would know if someone is intentionally driving around, or unintentionally driving around.

This is how i got my deer this year... and im not joking..
-
That is how my brother in law got his. We went out, found a deer, killed it.
Bob33.....probably the only way is if they set their beer down and admit it! I'm joking of course because it is simply not enforcable.

WHO amongst us would get out and walk the other way? That is unless a better shot could be had by doing it
One other thing.....what page is that on??

Sorry, but that's just stupid. I'd like to know how that could even be enforced.
:yeah: impossible to enforce. It's already tough to enforce laws and catch criminals
not to mention I am glad so many people road hunt because my favorite areas (.3 - 2 miles offroad) would be hunted a lot harder if those guys couldn't road hunt.
Not to mention, I have "roadhunted" myself before when it comes to learning new areas and hunting early fall bears etc. drive/glass, drive/glass "until I find the animal I want to harvest" It isn't my #1 or #2 chosen method but I'll be darned if I want it illegal.

doesn't surprise me that some would agree with something like this :yike: Can not say I am shocked :chuckle: :chuckle: You nailed it right on the head ...I do not intentionally drive around and hunt anymore because I simply can not ! All roads in my area are now gated :bash: :bash: I have no problem shooting anything from the road as long as I am in a legal area to do so ...and I always make sure I am out of rig and off the road :archery_smiley: :hunter: It does not matter either way :yeah:
-
If roadhunting were to be outlawed in this state the harvest numbers for deer, elk and grouse would plummet!
