Spent three days scouting and not a peep yet. Water holes seem to be the ticket for 27th opener!
-
I've heard a couple bugles already probably same bull
-
I was out today and these are the only bugles I heard

One lone rip a little north of you over the last 3 days.
-
The Nooksack herd is starting to light up. I woke up this morning to a bull screaming in the field below my house.
-
Weather change tonight in the Yakima country should inspire some vocals. Fall evening temps are here. Most have de furred this last week.

Any luck on finding a ram?
-
Heard a young bull the other day across the pasture trying out his pipes. He sounded pretty bad. :chuckle:

Nope, but it wasn't for lack of vertical boot miles:chuckle:

It kinda looks like this guy's bugling...
But, it was just a yawn.
-
Cool pic. He's got the bugling look.

That pic could go in a frame

YEP, POSER. :chuckle:
-
I heard one and that was it.
-
Im in the woods! Two cow calls and one sounded off immediately.
-
I was out all weekend in goose prairie didn't hear anything but the coyotes at night... it was super warm tho daytime and evening
-
Heard multiple bugles on 7/22, but was out yesterday and only heard cows talking.
-
I've heard nothing so far. Zero response to cow calls.

Question: Are you guys out there calling right now? Pretty stupid idea to call before season IMO. This time of year especially they may come in silently an hour after you called, and if they smell you you've just educated another elk. :twocents:

My season opened Aug. 1st.
-
Most of the activity that I'm picking up on Cams is between 11:00pm and 2:00am. Maybe they are bugling in the middle of night.
-
I'm bugling! That could just be the mexican food for dinner.

Stupid? You have just opened mouth and inserted foot.
Dont worry Im on private property! I wont educate YOUR elk there buddy..
Jesus!
-
I agree with his statement that calling this time of year is stupid and educates the elk.
Obviously on private property OR public you can do all the calling you want year round.
Are these elk high fenced on this property or could they visit public ground???
Why did you call him Jesus?
-
My cousins drive all around this time of year in the Yakima, Elensburg, Wenatchee areas buguling in elk. They said its been lights out action!!!!! Then its off to Idaho to hunt uneducated elks...... :chuckle:
-
go up reecer and watch all the eburg guys call elk out there window . theres a big difference in locating bulls and calling them in .....

Personally, I would feel bad killing a poor ole uneducated elk, so educate as many as I can.
-
I would laugh a lot harder at this thread if I hadn't drawn the quality tag this year...
-
I wouldn't worry.
A big bull wont keep his wiener in his pants just because a bunch of clowns are out doing their Will Primos imitation.
-
Lol i have no idea why youd want to locate bulls you already know are there.....sometimes the hardest part about having a good area is staying out of it
Just my opinion :hello:
-
funny thread now . lots of know it alls ! I love it
-
I believe his season starts Saturday so if he was locating and getting ready to actually call him in Saturday seems fine with me.
-
Knowing RT, I highly doubt he was out stomping hills calling for bulls right now. I'd bet nickel he was in his camp chair trying out a new diaphragm and was pleasantly surprised with the result. :chuckle:

Bulls bugling near wenas
-
I always think about setting up below a good landing that everyone pulls over and bugles off of. Set up 150 yds below the landing and respond to their bugles n see how far you can lure them into the thick n nasty stuff....bu then again who has that kind of time in September. :chuckle:
-
I'm bugling! That could just be the mexican food for dinner.
Now THAT will educate an elk!!!!!!!!!! :yike:
-
Was calling for bear tonight and a bull was going nuts in the timber

Sounds like a lot of master hunters on here...lol
-
Didn't intend to start a fire storm. Lots of Respect for RT from what I have seen on this Forum. Probably has forgotten more about elk hunting then I will ever know.
However, I would stand by my comment that IMO calling before season is foolish. I am sure it can be done in a way that doesn't educate elk, but most isn't IME.
I was glassing a basin and saw two hunters stop to call on the edge of a little opening. They waited about 5 minutes and pushed on. About 30 minutes later a bull came slinking into sight. Went right to where they had called, sniffed the ground, and bolted. IME elk that haven't recently associated elk noises with human presence are much easier to call in. ( Think the first hunter to hit a drainage in September. ) Just my :twocents:
-
I believe local elk get pretty familiar with human sent and human noises they will tolerate much more of both . I try and let the woods quiet down before calling . but I will say those must have been some stinky fellas and obviously they didn't understand early season calling techniques . I personally don't try and call elk in I'm not hunting but everyone has a right to. throwing a locater bugle out is way different than sweet talking in a elk . if you get a response put it in the bank and move on or set up and glass. id call it a tool of scouting to a degree. better than stomping threw there beds .

Pretty much all Im doing is finding elk that I hunted last season. I have hunted two bulls here pretty much for 3 years! Been withing 15 yards several times just couldnt close the deal. Im finding them not calling them in.
No hard feelings. But a bugle sure does get the blood pumping!!

Oh great...an early rut....archery season is screwed :chuckle:
Couple more weeks to go..hurry and get here :IBCOOL:

They are bugling for sure. Got into a drainage early this AM with three different bulls bugling back and forth.
-
I swear I saw a little fir tree on the side of the highway today between Randle amd Morton that some bull had worked over!!
-
85 degrees last night and we heard a bull in mid season form .
-
I was out scouting yesterday and walked myself into a herd. I gave a couple quick whistles coming as close to a calf as I could and had a 6x6 light up 25 yards in front of me. Got a good clip of it with my phone. If it were season he'd have an arrow in him.
-
Yep, they're starting to exercise their vocal chords a bit!
-
There starting to go nuts in the naneum
-
 glad to hear there's some vocal wapiti out there!! Good luck everyone!

Bulls are going pretty good in the white river. Responding pretty good to a bugle. Just ripped off a bugle and had four different bulls respond. My son passed on a few bulls today. Saw a couple that he was getting a itchy finger over.

This guy was rut crazed, we were watching a group of cows and he bolted out of a creek bottom from his wallow and was pushing the cows all around screaming his head off. He put on a heck of a show for us tonight. I wish I would've snapped a pic of the bigger bull that was on the hillside behind him with his cows, he was unreal. Biggest bull I've ever seen. Great night in the elk woods for sure!

Was up in Hancock on Sat evening. Saw a few nice Bulls, I pulled off to look over the hill, and spotted a doe, so I'm looking at her, and off to my left I see movement. Look over, 7x8 bull, 75 yards away. And he bugles at me!! So I grabbed my bugle out of the truck, and blew at him. Only got a chuckle back from him, but he hung around for 15 minutes looking around. Was pretty cool.

As posted elsewhere, the Yakima bulls are going crazy this morning. Colder temps and rain. They are all fire up. I bet I heard a thousand bulls singing.
-
Sunday morning sitting in the deer blind in 328 they were sounding off as well.
-
I was out this weekend with friends and family between taneum and manashtash. Didn't hear any bagles down low but snuck away to get up top and saw a bull with a cow and two other lobe cows. Think I saw Denton from Rock Creek up at quartz mtn.
-
Didn't hear a single bugle in Bethel this weekend. Talked to the warden and he said the same thing, has not heard them in Bethel YET
-
I was hunting mulies this weekend in 172 and had several bulls bugling around me every morning and evening.
-
Seen a 340" bull in the middle of the highway just now. Other bulls in the sticks are going nuts tonight.
-
Yesterday while I was in the woods, stuffed under my truck changing a flat tire in the pouring rain I heard a bugle that was close enough to startle me. Never did see him but I also never saw another soul in there. Might be going back with daughter in tow.
-
That was just me out practicing my calling techniques.

Yea, I was scouting and lots of folks are out bugling.

Any West side bugles? Siouxson, Wind River, Lewis River, Toutle. I'm muzzle loading but curious if the archery guys have been hearing anything?
-
Three west side bulls screaming tonight
-
Who heard bugles today ? Not me :bash:
-
I heard enough west side hunters bugle this morning to last me a lifetime. So far this evening I've heard two. Very far away. Can't tell if elk or man.
Last weekend while deer hunting I heard a legitimate bugle in the morning and had the bull walk within 10 yards of me later that day.
Yes, I'm in that same exact spot today - so far I still have my tag.

I had a bull going this morning for 3hrs but had another hunter get in-between us and push him the opposite way ...he was answering every call we made but went into a hell hole that was so thick it would be hard to get a shot...back at it this afternoon when he comes out of it
-
Tough up here in NE. Very quiet so far
-
Called in 2 bulls opening morning in 513. 2nd bull played along and let me sneak an arrow in him !!
-
Called in 3 nice bulls in Northern Idaho yesterday. Wish I had a tag.
-
Bugling like crazy in the Toutle opening morning
-
Got 2 more goin today on the coast...one was the biggest bull I've ever seen and my buddy had an arrow deflected :bash:

I heard quite a bit of bugling this weekend above 5000' elevation in one of the Yakima area GMU's no bugles, or any recent evidence of elk activity down low.
