Can I?
« on: October 13, 2012, 09:07:26 PM »
I got a call this am that my buddy needed help getting his deer out. He was hunting in Idaho in a
2 point only unit. We find his deer then hear a shot in the near distance. We finally make it up to where our quads were and we see on the hill side a dead doe that someone just shot. Saw quad tracks and tried to follow them but it went to truck tracks, they were long gone. Told the one of the wardens up there about it, he asked where it was and that was it. So do I have to leave that deer there or can I legally take meat off of it. Pretty sure it will be coyote food in the next day or so.

Oh and never seen as many road hunters in my life. 3 guys on one quad, each with guns, 2 guys on a hood of a car driving up and down the same road.

Pretty sure you have to leave it. If you have a tag though and don't want it to go to waste it couldn't hurt to ask the warden if you could tag it after they collect whatever evidence they need. I have no idea if they would let you are not, but no harm asking right?  :dunno:

Yeah I archery hunt and my hunt doesn't open until 11/15, and its in a different unit. Sucks to see meat go to waste. With it being a 2 point only or big buck draw unit, wonder why they shot the doe....

Yeah, Like I always say " KNOW YOUR TARGET ".....  Shooting a doe in a two point or better unit, that is just ignorance and wasteful!
