how high is too high

So I have had the loggers out, and I'm developing the property into some really nice habitat. I have about an acre valley that I have just cleared out and will plant a nice plot in next season. I have a tree that will over look the whole valley. The problem is that it doesn't start to crown until 45-50ft so in order to conceal the treestand it would have to be at least that high. So I'm wondering if 50ft is too high for a treestand?

Id use a climber or you would need a whole lot of ladder sticks to make that work! Ive hunting that high up with a rifle and my climber. You can see alot!

Im a big fan of the Summit Viper. Quiet easy to use, and a little too comfortable to sit in... kinda like my lazey boy. Ive found a couple used on CL for $150 and you can find them. Dont see very many right before the season tho... normally the best deals are after the season.

Thought of a tree stand blind? I've never priced them but I've seen them for sale

You could build a hang on blind then need a really tall ladder, you could also build a tower blind at whatever height you want and place where ever you like...

When the cops show up your too high ,,, myself treestand hunting is pretty much all I do and it seems to me being up that high is just not safe or nessasary, I would rather be in a good ground blind system set up into the hill months in advance,as soon as its in send me a reservation drawing slip.

Build a permanent blind at the height you want, the deer will get used to it, you can heat it in the winter for those all day sits waiting for a buck to wander by. This is done all the time back east.

On the property I hunted in South Carolina we built several permanent stands...some free-standing, and others anchored to a tree. There are all kinds of plans online, but we had one that we built that was 50' up a big pine tree on a ridge overlooking meadows on each side where we planted clover and turnips. No problem with shot angles...especially with a rifle. And as was mentioned, having a nice comfy office chair up there with a buddy heater made for a comfortable sit. Make sure to look for plans with a roof.

We have a stand that we call the "Skyscraper" it is 45 feet in the tree. I shot a buck out of it a few years back. It is a little bit crazy being that high in the tree but that is how high it needed to be to see both fields.

Aren't you worried about the tree swaying. It'd be like shooting a rifle from a rocking boat. Hope you're not planning to take shots over 100yds on a breezy day.

When I sat in mine the wind was blowing for a while. It felt like being in a boat. Had a hard time staying awake!
