I had the privilege to put my hands on this awesome animal yesterday when I caped him out for WDFW. The cape is in the freezer and the antlers are under lock and key at Oak Creek. From what I understand it will be mounted by the RMEF taxidermist in Missoula, MT and go on the RMEF elk tour in 2017 and eventually end up back here in WA sometime in 2018. I put a quick tape on him and came up with a gross score of 429 7/8 with 80" of mass. He had a spread of 38" and his trade mark left G-3 was 29" long. Most definitely not the way you want to see an animal of this caliber meet his demise.

So great you got to cape him Ric.... too bad it will be a few years before we'll get to see him here in WA again.  He was a giant that I spent a good deal of time on trying to figure out how to get Coach into but there just wasn't a way.... I didn't know I should be trolling I-90!  Sad to see him leave this way but lucky to have known he was about when he was alive.

Amazing animal.  Private land and golf course grass  can do wonders. :chuckle:
To bad he went out like that.  I am glad to hear that I might someday  be able to see him at a rmef function.  Maybe
If its brown knock it down

Up date on the G-3 bull I had it officially scored yesterday at 437 2/8 gross non typical, after deductions it scored 424, with over 80 inches of mass, I was fortunate to have some good friends working for the Dot the morning it was hit and killed on the interstate that called me when it got hit, I had already been through the process of working with the rocky Mountain elk foundation since they had already mounted the  sheds from this bull the year before, he was a great bull that I had been watching for the last 5 years having picked up 4 of his sheds Im gonna miss him, I actually had him at 30 yards last fall during the rut, in a stair down for 5 minutes, something I will never forget.

I wanted to try and age him but was told that bulls of that age are almost impossible to know for sure, I do know that I have sheds from him that are old, and hes a 7 point then, not sure were hes going to be desplayed

Dave-
What did the sheds score? Almost looks like he's lost a little since then.
Good job showing this giant the respect he deserves!!

My set of sheds scored 433 5/8, he did loose a lot of length and a few points, but he gained in other places, great thing about these non typicals is you get different rack every year
