Trailer axle - replace it?

So, I went to move pone of my old boats today and the hubs are locked up.  I managed to get the lug nuts loose with my impact wrench.  The question now is do I bother trying to pull the hubs off to replace them or should I just replace the entire axle?  I think the brakes (which didn't work anyways) are locked up to the inside of the hub, but not positive about this.  Thanks for any help.

I bet you could replace bearings and clean it up if you want.  I am not big on replacing everything but that sure looks pretty far gone....  I would likely replace it.

The axle and u-Bolts look like junk, I wouldn't trust it. I vote for replacing the entire unit.

I would not trust that axle but I've burned out bearings on the freeway before so I'm a bit biased. I had a worn spindle that would not seal properly. Cost me 2 pricey fixes before the problem was diagnosed. I switched that axle out for a heavier duty one and have not had an issue since. Bought the parts from 6 Roblees and did the work myself. Took a few hours and was really not bad in cost. Hope it works out for you!

Been in a similar situation on a cross country trip when moving from Missouri to here.  Ended up replacing axle, springs and hubs in a hotel parking lot in Billings when it was 10 degrees and blowing snow.  Not too much fun that day.  Those look way far gone.  I would consider replacing axle, hubs, brakes and springs and all hardware.  Just my opinion.

Might cost ya a little more, but I'd do the whole axle, be solid for years, and alot less work/time involved. Torch the old one out of the way, bolt the new one in and go. Fixing that one up seems like a bunch of busted knuckles for a project that may fail as soon as you start moving the boat.

Find a lightly used boat trailer. That thing looks toast.

I would replace the axle and U-bolts.

Thanks everyone.  Looks like I'll be replacing the axle as well.  A 3500 pound Trophy currently sits on it, however, the Trophy is going away with a better trialer already on the mainland.  This trailer will be used for my son's boat, 19' that will weigh a lot less so I am not going to put brakes on it.
