Crabbing around Sequim.

I live in area 13 so my local areas are closed again this year so I'm looking for a new crabbing area.
I used to get up to Brinnon one or twice a summer but I've heard the crab have been over fished around there.
I've been taking my 8year old grandson out hunting and fishing, trying to show him some of the outdoors that I grew up experiencing but a lot of my old haunts of the 80's and 90's arent so productive any more.
So I'm looking to try farther away. I've hear good things about the Dungeness Bay, so thats the plan for next weekend right now. After looking at a map/chart, Dungeness looks pretty shallow.
If Anybody has any pointers or advise, I'm all ears. I've got the pots loaded up in my little 16' smokercraft ready to go. Now I'm trying to figure out where to go.

It's pretty straight forward out there. If it's an open day there will be buoys in the good areas. It gets pretty hammered but there are a few crabs to be had. Watch the tides and wind direction it can and does get nasty in there.

Buddy bought a place on the water in sequim last year. We went out and tossed a pot in and pulled at least one keeper every time and neither of us had a clue what we were doing really. The area was littered with buoys and the neighbor who has a bigger boat and much more experience said it's a good area to go.

Kline Spit area can have rapidly changing conditions...tides, currents, depth etc. Be safe and best of luck

Crab it early in the season.  Find lots of females and undersized later on.  Clams for bait if you can.

Tend your gear... lots of thieves.

Bouy mass is usually the located congregation, but not always. Look for open bottom, don't set in the weeds. Launching can be very tide dependent. Lots of crab in there!

We went to Hoods canal this weekend and it was pretty slow. Got lots of good sized rock crab but the Dungeness were few and far between. WATCH FOR POT THIEVES! A few of our pots were checked.

Are you talking about this Saturday, 7/10, tide? I'm new to this, but it looks like a big one to me??

Yeah, Saturday is a biggie, loosing 8' early and then turning right around and getting 8' back.  The pm set is the small one, only 1' change.  It gets better mid month.

It's one of those days that are fun to go on Deception Pass bridge and watch the water, 7.4 knots outgoing at 6:39 am Saturday.     "Only" 6.8 knots at incoming peak.
