so i was weighing my arrows
« on: August 25, 2010, 02:59:51 PM »
and there is up to a 20 grain difference between 2 of them and average 8-11 between the remaining. Is this really going to make a difference. i shoot consistantly. day after day any thoughts or just dont worry about it?

are they all the same arrows and tip weights?  If they are it sounds like you have some that are longer???  You shouldn't have more than a 2-3 grain difference in any of them.  Yes 20 grains can make a difference...

Sounds to me like some are cut differently or you have different vanes, tips, etc.. My arrows are all within 2 gr. of each other.. Most within less than 1 gr..

two are the same and then three the same. the 2 are 10 gr. difference and cut the same length and the three are 8 gr. difference cut the same length. a few have different inserts but thats it. the big grain difference is between the two different arrows. i have my crappy small game arrows(2) and then my deer/elk arrows(3).

I'd take all those arrows and put them in a corner. Go buy a half dozen or dozen matching arrows. Shoot the same arrows for everthing.

:yeah:

I would never shoot your current batch of arrows at an animal unless I limited my shots to 10 yards or less. :twocents:

Well, maybe grouse.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.

the three for deer i shoot tight groups of 3 in or less out to 40 yards and 5-9in at 60yrds. the other arrows are 20yrds and under. and i dont take shots over 40 at deer unless for a follow up. i'm a tree stand hunter and the farthest i've ever took is 32 yrds but average at less than 15 yrds

Even with that being the case, I would agree about getting some new all around matching arrows. If your not going to be shooting that far get a dozen aluminum's for less money and go kill some critters.

This close to the season I wouldn't be inclined to change things up. I would keep the 3 arrows that match and use them this season. After the season I would do what was advised and put all the arrows aside and get a dozen new arrows.

Take the 3 arrow down to a local pro shop and have them match them and get another half dozen
