Duck Identification...
« on: October 15, 2010, 09:18:13 PM »
I can tell all my ducks apart... except redhead and canvasback drakes...  The only difference I notice is that canvasbacks have a longer, skinnier bill... any other characteristics anyone would like to point out to me?

Redheads have a more grey body when Canvasback are a more white body... The can's head's are a more orange. and the redheads are a darker red...

the top pic is a Can and the bottom is a Redhead

Another sure way to tell sitting in the blind is that the Canvasback is much larger than the Redhead and the light blue on the bill of the Redhead sticks out like a sore thumb.  Both are beautiful birds, and very tough.  They will almost everytime dive if you don't hit them good on the first shot.  Good luck.  John
