Bobcat, I have a new found respect for these Blacktails.  I hunted the exact same area for early archery and saw an average of 3 per 6 hour walk.  Of course it was rainy as well.  I knew the weather was too 'nice' for good hunting, but with the time off, I figured I could at least get a shot while jumping them from their beds or afternoon graze.  WRONG.  I spent 6 days walking through perfect areas that were prime areas for blackies not more than a month ago.  The only things I saw were 3 grouse, and 2 yotes.  I knew that the rain helped, but did not realize how needed it actually was.  What I did notice was that at almost exactly 7:15 in the evening, every day, I busted all kinds of deer and elk that were on the move during the full moon.  Heading back out in the morning...

thanks for sharing that. I've been getting frustrated myself. Put in many hours and many miles already this season to come up very empty. a lot of it is just not being on the x. guys right next to me in every direction bagging bucks, and me only seeing does running through, LOL (although not blackies).

I have a place I'm going to hit hard this weekend for blacktail. it's a fairly hard hike, about 6 miles in, uphill... but at least it's downhill if i'm carrying something out.

Go up the South Skagit out of Woolley and head east. Take the lower Finney Creek road. A ways up you can take a left onto Iron Mountain or keep going and take a right at the top. Either way will put you in good deer habitat.
