hey...i hunted it last year and every time i went out there...no one was there..mainly because there were no ducks on it. i did have a huge flock of geese fly over but way up there. been told that when the weather changes ducks sometimes head in there for refuge. also was told to hunt kapowsin and silver, but i hear bad things about parking at kapowsin...dont' know if they are true though.
hope that helps....LOL

We used to go fishing/hunting on Kapowsin, did better than the "blind hunters" by trolling along for fish, then when we saw duck/goose along shore, we would kill motor, WAIT UNTIL ALL PROGRESS DUE TO MOTOR HAS STOPPED, then row towards ducks/geese, when they flew..
Had lots of fun days, especially when the Chums were in lake !

Do you have to take a boat to the blinds on Rapjohn or is there a trail to each blind that crosses the private property? I was going to try it today, but I didn't want to trespass to get to the blinds. Its not really clear what is public vs private along the bank, so I errored on the side of caution.

You need a boat to access them as far as I know.
The only public assess or land I know of is the area at the boat launch.
Any one hunt it yet this year

I have hunted that lake for years. It use to be great....It seems to get better on the weekends cause the guys over at Silver and the guys that have permission to hunt Cranberry move the birds around. Silver is better but you have to pay to play there as the launch is owned by the state but the land where you have to park is owned by a family that runs a camp ground. The blinds at Rap John are out too far away from the edge of the heavey grass that surrounds the lake. I have a buddy that is the game warden for the area and he has mentioned that I could move the blinds back farther but I havent done it yet....Yes there is a lot of problems with car prowls at Kapowsin....Just check out all the broken glass on the ground...Basically to answer your question there are a few lakes that you can hunt in Pierce County and all of them get lots of pressure. Dont expect to shoot a limit every time...A good hunt is 3 to 4 birds a piece. KEEP PRESSING!!!

Hunted twice at rapjon this year. Seen and heard lots of birds, shot 5 divers. I love just being out there. Great for easy, relaxing hunts. Sometimes hit it for afternoon hunts just for an excuse to take my boat out. I want to try silver and cranberry. Can you hunt from your boat on those two?

I hunted it for years
My thoughts are its an early morning shoot with a two hour delay for the goose flyover
I have not hunted it in over five years but i have not seen the blinds
There is only really one shallow area on the north end in the pads so a boat is necessary
The locals on the lake hate duck hunters and have tried for years to stop all hunting for all sorts of reasons
I have friends that live on the lake and we have had our discussions and i understand their problems with noise
But everyone of them knew it is a WDFW lake when they bought the housejust like on Silver
Cranberry is private and i know of NO ONE who has gotten permission to hunt it
I have distant relatives who live directly across the road from itand they have tried to get permission to hunt it and were hit with a resounding NO
Silver is an ok lake to hunt if you like divers and there is a lot of shooting to be had there
There are some puddle ducks there but usually fly out after the first gunshots
I live near all three and rely on them spooking the birds my way evry morning
My yard usually has a chance of duck precipitation
Good luck

I used to hunt RapJohn a lot. We were the ones that kept getting notes left on our truck by some woman crying about the noise, (maybe she shouldnt have chosen to live near the lake). It was best when things start freezing up. Good size flock og geese would hit the lake between 9-10 almost like clockwork. My best hunts there was having to break through ice with the boat to get set up. 4 times had 2 limits within 40 minutes, mallards & widgeon, then would get 4 to 6 (6 being our best) geese by 10am. After 10, best to go home have breakfast and watch football.
