Zach, you'll need small game license and duck stamp (duck stamp costs $15 and you can also buy it at USPS or sometimes at the place where you get license ) ,shot gun and steel ammunition . I think all of WA is now pretty much steel shots only . Lots of release sites hold ducks , also check duck forums .
You should have some duck holding marshes around east or check the JBLM. You don't have to drive to Potholes for ducks  :chuckle:

Don't forget the migratory bird permit! Also make sure that the shotgun can't hold more than 3 rounds total... 2 in the mag and one in the chamber. I'm still learning myself, so I really can't be of much help  :sry:

Now that's an offer I wouldn't pass up, on top of that you are darn near neighbors. Good luck to you both!

i dont know much in the south end as i live in the north end but practice your calls as much as possible be very still when birds are around and have good camo and wash it in sport wash or something that does not have UV brighteners in it. any steel shot from BB up to #3  are good for any ducks or geese around here. 3" are fine you dont need 3 1/2 ". feel free to pm if ya have any questions,

I second the comment on ID for ducks. I used to not know if I ducks or pigeons flying overhead, start watching the skies and get your ID game up and you will be a better hunter by far, ID is huge. I call out birds all day while driving around for work.
The deer are exactly where you find them, and no where you dont!

Me too  :chuckle: It is kind of fun, and heart-breaking because all of the ducks and geese are in a field that I cannot hunt  :P

It's only my second season waterfowling, but I'll gladly go looking for birds with you :) I'm always looking for hunting partners so I can go hunt as much as possible and Buckley is pretty close to me

First off, most importantly....
Steel shot (or non-toxic shot) is a federal requirment when hunting for ANY migratory game birds.

Secondly, remember that duck hunting is all about the ducks coming to you, not the other way around.
Sure... some guys love jump shooting, but for the most part that is not going to work.

Because you're trying to get the birds to come to you, the most important thing to remember, other than following all rules, is camoflauge!
All birds can see color. That is why the male are so colorful for attracting females.
Becasue of this very simple evolutionary traight...   CAMOFLAUGE is the most important factor.
Simply having a face mask or face paint can make or brake your day.
You want to avoid any white or flashy  items, like your hands

Jimbo: "That's right, Stanley. Animals are much easier to shoot in the morning."
