Coyote Nov 1 to Feb 1
Beaver Dec 1 to March 31
Badger Jan 1 to March 1
Raccoon Nov 15 to Feb 15
Muskrat Nov 1 to March 31
Cats Dec 15 to March 31

Might be some disagreement on those but that's what I would go by. Weather and population will play a roll in the ending dates.

Why does badger prime so much later than the others ?  Also what is the best way to dispatch these critters in the cage

I don't know a heck of a lot about badger but everyone says they prime late. Can't tell you why.
Small animals like muskrat your best bet is to drown them. Bigger animals I use my .22.

I prefer a .22 short through the ear hole. It won't exit and you won't damage any fur there. Also there is normally less blood than with a .22 long. Can shoot em in a revolver and not have to use hearing protection which is nice.

Don't try to stand back and shoot through the cage, at least I never would. Some critters like to bounce all around in there, but be patient cause eventually they will give you a shot. Pick a spot to put the barrel up to the cage if they move around alot and wait .
